We need to replace the existing white, horizontal, vinyl siding on our house. Originally I thought I would just go with white horizontal siding again, but I have seen samples of siding that looks like rock and stone (eg., limestone). The material looks very realistic, but the cost is much less than actual stone. I think the design would fit the style of our house, and location (country). But, I have a couple of concerns I was hoping TUGGERS could help me with. First, does anyone have any experience with this type of product and its durability (e.g., fading), longevity, etc. And, second, would you buy a house with "fake" rock siding. Thanks!

Carl

Our house is the cape cod style, light blue siding/grey rock. Our house is almost 10 years old. So far they are in great condition. We had a few rocks fall off and therefore my husband just glued them back on. The rock part is only on the bottom portion of the house...let's say the basement part. If you're interested in seeing pic of the combination, let me know I'll be glad to pm it to you!

There are many immitation brick and stone sidings available. Two of the popular brands are Nailite and Foundery. These are polymer products.

Another type of product would be cultured stone, which looks like real stone. These are usally mortered and look very realistic.

You should consider a long lenght vinyl siding to replace the 12 ft. siding should you now have as this will reduce the seams. We like Certainteed xl and Mastic xl as they are available in 16.6 ft lenghts. Certainteed also has a 20 ft. horizontal siding that really eliminates many seams.

Instead of stone the immitation cedar shingles would be a better choice. There are no visible seams with this product and it can be used with the horizontal siding.
