Planning on purchasing a Villa Group 5,000 point contract via resale.

The developer strips many benefits when resold (luckily this one remains as points)

Has anyone found a way around this? It looks like the benefits will transfer if the timeshare is going to a family member. I remember reading about someone adding their name to the contract and then removing the original owners names at a later date. Has anyone heard of this working?

Any other alternatives I should consider like using a trust?

I suppose the other problem is that even if there is a way, the sellers will be unlikely to want to participate.

Is offering to make some additional payment to the developer a crazy idea? Even if I were to offer them something like 5K to retain the original benefits I would still be saving significantly over what the developer is selling them for.

Really, just having the points is the main thing. The benefits aren't that special, imo. What benefits are you wanting to keep ? With enough points you would be able to reserve any inventory in any season, which to me is what matters. Below are the Elite benefits. It says you have access to the Enstancia with Elite benefits but with enough points I think you can reserve the Enstancia anyway.

Yes, the go around is or was to add a person's name to a membership then remove the original person's name. The reason this doesn't work is the seller usually doesn't want to be in collusion with an unknown person to commit fraud even if it isn't fraud. If the seller is ok with it, you could call Resortcom to see how to put a name on a membership and remove the original later. Some points memberships transfer with benefits and Resortcom could tell you if this does.

Well I know not the greatest sort of accurate information, but a few members in the Villa group Facebook page seem to think that the adding name / removing name no longer work.

The only benefit I am really concerned about is banking / borrowing years (new limitation is 1 year) meaning that I don't have a lot to work with if I can't go one year or need bigger / more units another.

The seller declined working with me on any solutions and just wanted out, so my next plan will be to approach the developer at some point and see if they are willing to take some kind of cash payment to re-instate benefits.

You best bet, is to buy a resale. Go to the resort, attend a presentation and they will offer to take the contract give you full credit for what was paid by the original owner towards a new purchase.

This concept would 100% work, except I am buying a Club Caribe contract.

I feel like I am giving up something on this rare contract by not doing something to preserve the benefits.

Also, I have gotten offers like this before with another contract, yet somehow it still ends up being a 10-20K buy in.

What benefits are you trying to preserve? If it transfers as a points contract, that is the biggest benefit. Club Caribe is great because it allows you access to Garza Blanca and Villa del Palmar

@connxcent said that they were concerned about the point banking being only one year. Banking time can be a handy thing but we haven't ever banked more than one year to make a longer reservation.

Well thanks for convincing me that it's not that big of a loss. You have made me realize that I also have never banked more than one year. And with this larger contract would be unlikely to need to borrow more than one year. Which I think only leaves holiday weeks as the only other tangible., and I generally avoid those because I'm not keen on the the points premium.

Now fingers crossed the transfer goes through smoothly. The last Club Caribe resale I tried to get somehow had the CNC points changed to a split of half UVC Optimal + half VPA optimal, so lost the ability to book Garza. I didn't have the original contract, and resortcom wouldn't give it to me as a resale owner so just moved on.
