We just purchased a Gold membership (summer season), and I'm looking to get more information. I'm wondering how far in advance booking is typically required, if use of gold time has worked for you, and any problems that might be helpful to know about. Are there any other websites for owner discussions?

The resort saves the prime weeks for owners to use and gives the less prime weeks to those who deposit the week with RCI or Interval. This is good for those who want to use the week and not so good for those that want to trade.
 
gingie: We own 4 Winter weeks Gold Membership which are the prime winter weeks so we book at least 10 months in advance i.e. we booked in March for our 6 weeks at the VDP FLAMINGOS RESORT for next Jan-March 2007. Owners shouldn't have any problems booking summer weeks which run from beginning of May to end of October approx. So far you have the new resort of VDP FLAMINGOS IN NEUVO VALLARTA and the new resort VILLA DEL ARCO in Cabo. :)

It sounds as if you're a happy owner, Paula! You said you own 4 weeks but booked 6. Are the extra part of your Gold Time? I haven't been able to get a straight answer on how far ahead that can be booked.
I'm sure I'll have more questions as time goes on. Right now, I'm eager to get my account number so I can get online and check things out.

I appreciate the responses.

we own 4 and borrow up to 4 for the next five years if we want to, after that we take just our 4 main weeks. For next year we had two already sitting there so just took our main 4 plus the two which were banked making 6. Hope I have been of some assistance to you. Paula :)
 
Where is Villa del Palmar located? It's a nice change to read something positive about a developer and that people are happy with their purchase and feel like they got value for their money. :D

Is it on the ocean and are they still building there? Just curious. ;)

Thanks, Paula. I have been to myuvc.com at the general pages and am awaiting my account number to access the member pages. My main question is about booking the "Gold Time". I believe the website says this is based on availability. I called UVC and asked about booking, and they really weren't able to answer my question with specific information. I got the sense that there are pools of rooms that come available for this, and it just depends if they are available when you call. They weren't able to tell me to call 2years, 1 year, 6mos, etc in advance...they just said it depends. So I'm wondering how hard it is to actually use that time.

Hi gingie: Yes, we are extremely happy with VDP, we had a Premier Membership first 4 weeks 2 bdrm. and used it at the older VDP in town, then we purchased 4 weeks 1bdrm. GOLD MEMBERSHIP and sold the Premier Membership. It has all worked out well for us. For every winter week we own we get a SUMMER WEEK and those weeks can be booked anytime and are usually always available providing you stay away from Mexican holidays and if we don't use them we don't have to pay maintenance for them. This year we are booking 3 summer weeks(gold time) for the end of October in either PV or Cabo and using Villa Del Arco their newest resort. By the way, your account number is on your contract if you bought it resale, I guess you are just waiting for it to be put in your name to access it. The account numbers don't change from one owner to another. My old Premier Membership Account number is still the same and our friends now own it and that goes for our latest week we have just purchased. UVC has an excellent web site and you can do almost everything from paying maintenance to booking on line. Congratulations on your new purchase. P.:)
 
Just be sure to avoid the San Diego office when doing business.
I was at Villa del Mar for 2 weeks in March. I went to the UVC office there and arranged a four week stay for next Feb. I own four fixed weeks but not consecutive. Of course they tried to talk me into a premier membership but I am satisfied with what I have at this point.

We have been Gold members a 5 years now and have stayed at all the resorts at least one time. Booking early only helps you get the best places on the high peak dates. A lot of it depends on when you want to go. Decide as early as possible.

We have had a lot of dealings with UVC about upgrades, minor problems, and major requests. At any point possible they did more than the contract said they had to. They are exceptionally flexible as well as helpful. Meeting them at the resort is a good time to work out details for future trips but the on line and phone methods work too. The sales people are about as low key as you get in the timesahre world. The free gifts however are not very much.

Were it not for the flexibility of Gold membership I don't think we would have bought our weeks. Now having been to all the resorts the new Flamingos and soon Cabo resort are some of the nicest timeshare units you can get these days.
