This is a new addition to Interval International directory, it is in Isla Mujeres and looks very nice. Today a last minute two bedroom was available.
However, this resort is advertised at expedia and bookit.com as all inclusive, does anyone know if it is mandatory all inclusive?
Villa Del Palmar Cancun is one of two new Villa Group resorts (the other is in Loretto).
This resort is included in the roster of resorts that members of the UVC ... Universal Vacation Club have access to. UVC is the homeowners management organization for the timeshares that Villa Group sells.
We were in Cancun (at the Westin Lagunamar) in mid-November. As we are UVC owners, we arranged to stop by Villa del Palmar Cancun for a visit...a real tour and visit, not a timeshare sales pitch. We were shown around the resort by the brother of the developer. Real nice guy. Resort is absolutely gorgeous.
But...it is under construction. Phase One just opened. Think of a large U-shaped facility. One side of the U is complete. This includes a restaurant and a number of rooms. There is a temporary fitness center...not sure what they are doing about a spa as the real spa building is not complete. One pool is complete and pool deck. A large poolside restaurant bar was under construction and planned to be opened by the Grand Opening in late December...looked like they needed to work overtime to make that...probably open by now. Phase 2 will complete the base of the U and will include the main lobby, market, spa, real fitness center. Phase 2 is scheduled for completion by the end of August 2011. This will include more pool deck/areas. Be assured, that if you visit now you will witness construction. There are fences with canvas coverings stretching across the middle of the resort separating the newly opened areas from the areas under construction. There are two large construction cranes operating and a wide variety of construction work underway. We haven't scheduled a vacation there yet ourselves...although we are anxious to do so...but leery of the construction. If you find a deeply discounted rate and are willing to endure the construction, I say go for it. You will love the beach/resort.
Plans for Phase 3 after August were not shared with us. Assume Phase 3 will include final leg of the U. Future plans call for a second U-shaped resort as part of Villa del Palmar Cancun and a third U-shaped resort called Villa La Estancia which is the Villa Group's fractional ownership properties...they currently have Villa La Estancia's in Cabo and Nuevo Vallarta.
Beach was very nice. Crystal clear blue Caribbean waters...sugary white sand beach. View is across water to Isla Mujeres.
Resort is on the mainland side ... area called Playa Mujeres. It is directly next door to the car ferry at Punto Sam. In fact, some views overlook the ferry dock. We were told that the car ferry is in the process of being moved and that the Villa Group plans to build a marina...we'll see. The resort is further away from Cancun than the people ferry at Punto Juarez... about 5-10 minute drive.
All the Villa Group resorts offer All Inclusive plans...but I've never been to one of the resorts when it was required. However, I've looked at some of the room pricing on the Villa Group website and it seems that AI is being priced into all the rooms. I'm guessing this may be due to:
The need to keep the restaurants/bars and staff busy while they are in limited operation
- The lack of nearby restaurants ... it's quite a ride into downtown Cancun and even further to the restaurants in the Hotel Zone
- Lack of a market at the resort and lack of nearby grocery stores.
FWIW
Safe travels
