We are contemplating an RCI exchange into a 1BR at either Grand Mayan (#6974/#DI50) or Grand Luxxe Jungle (#DN27). I think GLJ is a better choice, but want to check with the Folks Who Know before deciding.

I know the location of the Grand Luxxe Jungle is off in the corner, but it looks like the Grand Mayans can be far as well. I think the resort fee is the same for both, as are the TPU values (or maybe they are off by one, but who cares). The GLJ has more pool/amenity access (with the usual everything-at-Vidanta-changes caveat). On balance, it seems GLJ is preferable. Any other reason to go with the GM instead?

There's a lot written about the various units, but it all seems a little confusing.

GM will have a balcony and plunge pool while GLJ will have a much smaller balcony without the plunge pool. If it were me, I’d probably pick GLJ because the furnishings are slightly nicer and we like walking and don’t use the plunge pool much.

The Deluxxe/Jungle unit is a remodeled former 2-bedroom MP unit in the buildings they never opened. They are in the buildings close to the top right of the last picture below. They are closer to the Water Park. Triangle buildings are GL and the GM are the ones in a semi-circle and the ones in a row on the left.

Just check all the fine print with RCI for costs.

Also, I saw a facebook post yesterday that there is road construction between Vidanta and the Cancun Airport. It said to plan to leave 5 HOURS before you flight for the next 18 months! 2 hours in the taxi or shuttle and 3 hours at the airport. It came from Vidanta per an owner with reservations soon. I also saw the information on Trip Advisor.

I would take the Grand Mayan if you knew you were getting Buildings 1-7 (which unfortunately you won't know that). Otherwise, I would take the Grand Luxxe Jungle as Phyllis suggests.

Will be at Grand Luxxe Oct 2-9t. just Paid the room fee by paying early we get a $250 dollar credit at resort. also Offered a discount on the dining experienc.
has anyone done the dining experience? Is it worth it?
thanks

If the Dining Experience is the one where you are up in the air and they prepare your meal and you eat up there, there is no way I would try it. When we saw the information on it, my husband said "how many times do you think it will have to go up and down for people to go to the bathroom?"

No. The deal offered is $975 for a $1150 credit for food/drinks including alcohol from 7am-5pm ? Anyone ever done it? Is it worth it? Their will be 3 adults only

Some friends of mine and another couple went (4 total) and they did the offer/deal and found it useful. But it will all depend on how much you eat/drink vs. cook your own stuff. They don't like to cook on vacation, so obviously eating out all the time will quickly add up. I figure probably $75/person/day for food and drink (again YMMV depending on your drinking and where you eat).

Is this per person or per unit? For 3 people, it might be a good deal but per person it is pretty high in my opinion. Food is expensive at the restaurants. But, there are other things to consider before locking yourself into staying on property.

Are you planning to do Cirque? That will not be included.

Do you plan to do things off property like:
  • Take a taxi to Puerto Morales or Playa Del Carmen or ferry to Cozemel some days to explore food and shopping? They have great places to eat that cost less or the same per meal as a prepaid meal onsite, including taxi for RT.
  • What about tours? Are you going to do one or two? If so, you will be eating at those as most tours will cost but most likely will include a meal. Cenotes, Tulum, Xcaret or Xhel-Ha are all fun.
I would be surprised if you got anything other than a Mimosa at breakfast before 11:00 when the pool bars open and they close fairly early - 5:00 or 5:30 according to the Vidanta APP.

Back when they had meal coupon books, they did not include alcohol with meals.

We go for the beach, have done all the tours and do not go with plans to eat at the restaurants on-site, we go to Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morales, so go to the grocery our first day at one of them and tend to cook in our room and have plenty of Corona Light in our refrigerator. We sometimes order happy hour drinks and have gotten pannini's and chocolate croissants in the deli.

Just think about what you intend to do while there before making your decision.

Isn't that resort fee a killer. And what do you get for it? Hard to find real info on the Vidanta site. What did you end up going with? The 1 bedroom GLJ shows a plunge pool.
