Hello everyone and this is my first post

I share a Vidanta membership with a friend of mine (she’s the designated owner and I’m a co-owner) and we do not regret it and was actually really interested in joining when we attended the presentation. I wish we did our research first thiugh and just got it through here instead, we would’ve gotten a way better deal than we have now I think.

But anyway, we’re just making the most out of being a member and we’ve both used it (separately) a few times since getting it in 2019.

We’re planning on booking a trip back together though and we’ve been really good avoiding those member updates they keep asking you to do because we figured it’s just them trying to upsell.

So I guess I just want to check if that’s really the only point of these member updates? Do they just want to upsell you as much as possible and you’re not about to get any benefits and perks unless you give them more money? In that case, should we just try to never attend unless we’re ready for an upgrade? They keep telling is that we’re missing out on privileges we have now that we don’t know about

We have attended 2 such "Member Updates" or "Contract Reviews" and yes the meeting will be with Vida Sales, yes it will be and upgrade sales meeting.

Our last experience (last week) was not a pleasant one - in fact we felt threatened by the sales rep - who started out being a nice guy, and about the point that we stated we were not interested - he turned on the spot to basically try telling us we were stupid, and that we were putting our children's financial future at stake by not re-investing an additional $20K in their upgrade offer.

Best of luck with them, and be prepared for them to push their Vidanta World Park Experience as well.

Thank you! That’s what we thought all along which is why we’ve been avoiding it. We’ll continue to stay away from these member updates - it will save us from their high pressure tactics, they really should do something about their sales people lol

Any privileges that they say you have will be spelled out in your contract, no need to attend a member "update" for that. It will definitely be an upsell presentation.

One Note we were informed of at Nuevo Vallarta last trip - IF you attend the "Contract/Member review" they gift you an additional 10% off on food and drinks - on our final bill for the week - that also extended to the tips at each restaurant/bar.

Thanks! They did offer that the last time, I was just worried it won’t even be worth it because of the lost of time with them trying to upsell haha

Hi @ZoeyDoo
Welcome to TUG & the Mexican Resort Forum
Here are some tips -if you choose to go to a Vida Sales Presentation

1) The Breakfast is really good .

2) The 90 minutes in the sales room is intense sales - as you know.
[You will however avoid the exit package gauntlet ; since you are an owner. ]
The focus will be to extract more money from you by getting you to upgrade.

The person who gives you the room key bracelet works for Vida Sales. They have a "tool kit of extra's " to convince you to go .
1 ) The 10 % off food and drinks - This come from the " hotel side " budget - and the offered amount is always 10%.

2) A room upgrade : ocean view - larger suite - higher brand . This is dependent on availability .
For example : In Sept / lower occupancy season it is easier than Feb 19 -2024 [ President's Week & The Mexican Open]
The actual dollar cost to Vida Sales / Vidanta is insignificant.[ Building exist - Staff cost don't really vary by brand or suite size]

The following come from the marketing budget of Vida Sales

3) The Vida Privileges Card [ or current version name ] offers things like golf discounts - 50% off the breakfast buffet at certain times etc.

4) A reduction in the resort fee for an exchange week. [ Typically 50% off / done as a resort use credit at checkout]
A few years ago we were there at the MP- PV Marina for 2 weeks- one on our Mayan Palace contract & one on an RCI exchange with a $ 450 resort fee.We went to a presentation and saved $ 225 +10% off meals + two massages+ cab fare back to the airport .

5) free cab back to the airport
6) 2 massages for free / low cost.
7) Cost reduction on a Vallarta Adventure Excursion (or similar)

8) whatever you can negotiate / in return for your time.

They will NEVER give you any extras unless you buy another contract. Which is useless as it’s basically a very expensive gym membership

I have been a longtime owner - since February 1999. We have upgraded, bought resales, etc. I now currently own 2 two-bedroom GL units. We had reservations for Thanksgiving week in NV this year and I brought our family. It was their first time at GL.

We arrived at Grand Luxxe in Nuevo on Saturday (11/18/23) around 1:00. We went through the check-in process and our units as usual would not be ready until after 4:00. They sent us to GL Building 4 to check in.

The welcome gal of course invited me to an update so that I could learn about all the new options available for me and had been added to my contract. I declined nicely and told her that because of recent life changes, I was not going to make any major decisions about anything for 1 year, so I would not be attending. I was just going to make a reservation with Member Services to pay my 10 year renovation fee and go on with plans to use it.

She then proceeded to tell me that it would be nearly impossible to get an appointment with member services as things have changed and I needed to go to the meeting find out what they were. I told her that what is in the contract stays the same unless I choose to change it and that I had a copy with me. I told her again that I was not going to the meeting and showed her that my contract says I get preferred rooms and views did not want to get put on the ground floor by the air conditioner. She said I would get a view room, but we are on the 2nd floor GL Building 2 which was “nicer” than Building 4 per the welcome gal. I have not seen units in building 4, but know they are newer and there is a pool and restaurant just outside.

We were OK with our units – our view was of the trees and not on the ocean side. Last time I was here, we were in Building 2 on the 6th floor ocean/river side and could see PV and the planes taking off. and the things along the ocean. The 5th floor and ones higher are now for Platinum members. My status is Gold.

I did get the Member Services number from the Concierge and called them. They said that they can do anything via phone and online now. I wanted to pay my 10 year renewal fee and take my husband’s name off of the contract. I found out that as long as his name on the contract, I will not be able to make any changes to our contract without us both there. Therefore, there is no need to go to update meetings anymore since I cannot upgrade without the paperwork required to take his name off and I do not plan to provide it. Since my name is also on the contract and Senior Certificates, I can go to any of the resorts for free after I turn 77 in January anyway.

My son and family thought the GL was very nice, but said the resort was too big and you cannot easily get out and explore the community. They like my Buganvilias Sky Suite much better. So, in the future I will most likely not be going to NV or RM to stay in a GL. I already know that I plan to go to the MP Marina with a brother and sister-in-law next year before my Buganvilias Sky Suite week and probably take friends or family to Puerto Penasco GM where I can drive in just under 4 hours and maybe the Cabo GM, because these are smaller and you are not held captive.

So, ZoeyDo, I would recommend that you pass on the update. Just pay the full price for meals and beverages and enjoy your time at the resort without the frustration of 4 hours or so of torture listening to lies. Buy beverages at Happy Hour. Welcome to the group! :)

Thank you so much for this info and for everyone who shared their info as well. We will avoid those member updates until we actually see the need to upgrade, which is not something we’re looking to do at the moment anyway.

I’m so happy to have discovered this forum, I’ve been reading and learning from everyone. Thanks again!
