Checked in for our owners update meeting at Elara today. First guy just shot the breeze and showed a video of the various HGVC properties around the world. Took about 15 minutes. Then handed us off to another sales person who took us up to the 57th floor. Showed us the snacks/beverages on offer. After we sat at her table she disappeared for about 25 minutes. Then comes back and said she had to go down to 3 to get some paperwork. When she finally comes back she starts talking about some great one of a lifetime points offer they were doing in January. I really didn't pay attention but even if I did I would have had no clue what I was buying. She then had to text her manager who came over with the pricing for 12,000 points. It think it was about $36k+. It wasn't until he was there that he told her that we bought resale. The sheet she had on us showed the original purchase price of $48,795. I actually bought 11,200 points on E*Bay for $4,195. She didn't seem to have any clue of that until her manager showed up. I declined any offer and bluntly said why on earth would anyone pay $36,000? If I wanted 12,000 more points I would just buy more on E*Bay.

Is there IT systems that bad that they have no clue how I obtained my contract?

See I would expect in today's day and age they would have loads of data on our family and know everything about us. They would have some AI system to customize the pitch and know exactly what to say to suck as much money out of us as possible. Same thing happened at Marriott to us last month. They had no clue we just took over the Waiohai contract.

perhaps the records contain the sales price for the original retail contract? one would imagine they have a way to flag an account as transferred/resale though, especially when the owner is attending a sales presentation!

They show me as a member from the prior owner's retail purchase.
In fact, I bought 12 years later... yes, the prior owner took a bath.

It sounds like a very new salesperson who won't be around long.

It will show the original purchase price and you can trade in that deed for another deed using that amount, with new money added but it is on there and the sale's person should have looked at it closer.

After many presos with freebies our account is noted as resale but we still have our original dev unit so we keep offers.

We are only resale now and get invites to sales meetings...so depending on the sale's office, it may not matter. I know NYC and Hawaii seem to be pickier and keep saying there is a minimum new cash requirement, like $25k, which isn't true since we have seen offers from $7k and up for folks.

Even Marriott and Vistana show the original sales price of the ownership interest in their systems. They don't necessarily know what you even paid for it when you bought it resale. The deed doesn't always contain a sales price, often just "$10 and other considerations". They could perhaps keep a record of it from when they reviewed ROFR but for whatever reason they don't. I don't think they really want to keep this type of detail on their books as it shows the true market value of what they are selling.

HGV doesn't know what the resale price was, only the original retail price.

No, definitely not. Companies have to spend money for that stuff. And, besides, no one has time to read all that stuff.

If they did go to all that trouble, maybe you wouldn't get the invite. Clearly, you would not be buying. Their current system of offerings gifts is effective enough.

Your salesgirl was having a bad day. They likely work on straight commission. It's rough.

I also think some other things are going on in the psychology of it all.

1) They think their biggest market is selling to existing owners.
2) Their salespeople on average are very good at what they do, and we still get some people here on TUG saying "should we upgrade" to retail from our resales in some permutation or other.
3) They don't want to risk putting you off by treating you as "second class citizens" in any way because that might hurt the upsell prospects.
4) They don't want their salespeople necessarily knowing up front if you're resale as they might just take a pass vs try their best to upsell.

Now, you're right, probably there's some claim that they ought to characterize you pre offer, but that would mean convincing the "snatchers" not to get a commission, or paying them equally for every resale owner when they don't try and get a presentation. IDK how it would function in the rest of the system...
