I am going to be in Vegas on business. Afterwards I wanted to rent a car for the weekend. I will be staying at the Marriott Grand Chateau. Would it be best to go back to the airport or are the any major rental companies near the strip?

I suppose that depends on whether you are looking at cost or convience.

Your best deals will be at the airport that you reserved through the internet. If you aren't concerned about getting the lowest rate, many of the hotels have a car agency within. I was at the Flamingo in October and they have Hertz there at the hotel with a dozen or so parking spaces for the cars they rent from there.

Note that the airport isn't all that far from GC.

There use to be a rental car agency right in the Hawaiian marketplace which is a short walk from Grand Chateau. I believe it was a Budget rental counter but wouldn't swear to it. If it's still there, it's probably be just as easy to pick it up there. I doubt the cost diference would be enough to warrent going all the way back to the airport. I know I'd at least compare pricing before trying to get back to the airport just to rent a car.

LV Rental car facility

Just an FYI Reminder, the rental car facility is not "AT" the airport. it is now located at 7135 Gilespie St. which is right at the corner of the south strip and E. Warm Springs. it may be cheaper/easier to head directly there as opposed to going to the airport and taking the free shuttle? it might be as simple as a $2 bus ride down to warm springs and then walk about a normal city block to the rental car facility
I too, have found renting cars via the internet the best deals in Vegas. usually in the $9-14 a day range for a full size car from a name brand rental company. then there are all the facility fees, taxes etc. that they tack on! RT

Thanks for the advice. I'll rent at the airport. Are all the major companies at7135 Gilespie St.? If so, I noticed some cheap rates on Hotwire (i.e. $9 per day for a midsize). It would be cheaper to rent the entire time through Hotwire than book directly for the weekend.

I got the same price from Dollar "airport" (WAY out actually) and from the Dollar in Paris. Much more convenient there.

Yes all the rental car companies are in one location, and there is one joint shuttle bus system from the airport to the facility and back. it's pretty slick.
HINT: after you rent the car, join the company's loyalty program. Such as Thrifty Rentals "Blue Chip" doing this saves you standing in line at the rental counter. you procede right to the garage and grab your pre-printed contract and select a car, and your burning gas! plus you earn points and/or airline miles RT

Just fyi--we rented from either Hotwire or Priceline in September and the price was unbeatable. You might look there. I remember that Hotwire kept sending me messages as the price dropped!

Also keep in mind, as you are comparing prices, there is an enormous difference in fees and taxes when you rent from the airport location than if you rent from a hotel location. You can still return the car to the airport location and avoid the fees/taxes.

Just rented a Las Vegas full size car for May 22nd from Hertz. It is an 8 day rental for $195. Includes all taxes and fees. Another well known rental company wanted $269. Had to prepay however to get discount. Pickup is at the airport rental building.

Does the auto insurance provided by most credit card companies pertain to a rental confirmed through Hotwire or Priceline?
