Hello all. This post is in reference to another post I made in the Buying/Selling/Renting thread. I am trying to help determine the value of a point in each system to make comparison a bit easier. I know you could go much deeper into "value", but just looking to provide a basic number. I you have a history in other programs, I would love to see similar posts elsewhere.

Thanks!

By 'worth' do you mean how much they cost? How much you can rent them out for? How much their use value compares to the cash price of reserving the same accommodation? Or something else?

Also, unlike the other points based programs which I own (HGVC, Abound) or am aware (Diamond/HVC, Westin and Sheraton Flex), DVC points have different booking windows, price, and value depending on which resort you own (though some of those other systems have different 'values' at different resorts because of MF/point differences). Roughly speaking I would say VGC points are worth about twice those at AKV/SSR/OKW...but it depends on the metric you wish to use.

I think straight up what they can be rented for. I own Rivera Points. The reputable rental sites pays me $18/point and I have 75% of the money when they rent them in a day or two. I get the other 25% on check in. I own Rivera and never let them go for less than that because the demand is high enough. When I rent them myself, I typically get $20/point, but I take on more risk. That is regardless of what resort I rent and at what time. I booked Saratoga for someone at 5 months and still got $20/point.

Long story straight, the poll is what you can rent them out for.

Sounds like you already know what you can rent your DVC points for. This varies by resort of course. Beach Club should rent for more than Vero Beach - even though they both have beach in thier name. ;)

The owner cost per point is easy to calculate for DVC. Purchase Price/total remaining point on the contract at time of purchase + current year dues per point. My 2025 Boardwalk points cost me just under $16 per point. This cost goes up every year in lock step with dues since purchase cost per point stays fixed over ther remainder of the contract.

Why do you take on more risk if you rent them on your own?

I can see "more hassle" but why "more risk"?

I book Riviera as soon as I can, and I get $20 per point from DVC Rental Store. They rent everything Riviera pretty quickly. I book dates, send them the confirmations, they appear online, and I get them rented. I am happy with it. We don't own Riviera, just FYI, we own Saratoga and OKW only.

I know people who rent Boardwalk and Beach Club for a lot over MF's because they book fall dates for Food and Wine, and people like to walk back to their hotels.

Of course another way to look at this is to compare a cash rental from Disney vs the point cost you would pay for the same room as a DVC owner.

Disney value rooms are cheap in comparison to DVC rentals. BUT, OKW is one I have rented myself many times for $20 per point, Sun-Fri, December dates, and it's only $200 per night for those studios directly from me.

Look at Redweek for a clue as to where you shouldn't ever rent anything Disney. Not much rents, and all of those people who pay $60 for verified/ protect are wasting money advertising there. It's okay by me because I learned my lesson. RW is the worst site for my rentals.
