Just finished a one week stay at Valdoro. First time in Breckenridge and the experience was great! We can't wait to go back.
We had one of the 2BP(?) units on the second floor that came with the grill and hot tub, on the front side of the building.
Check-in experience was smooth. The food and shopping options were great. Recommend Limber Grove for retail clothing and gift shopping.
We didn't have a bad food experience - the least favorite was probably Ollie's but even then it wasn't bad, it just wasn't as great as the rest. Mi Casa Mexican was recommended by Tiffany at the resort, and we enjoyed it a lot. For breakfast our favorites were Blue Moose and Amazing Grace. The Breckenridge Distillery and restaurant were nice. And Northside pizza (very good!) will deliver directly to the room at Valdoro.
We took an afternoon and rode the gondolas up to Peak 7 and Peak 8 and spent some time up there. Would have ridden the coaster but it was closed.
In Frisco we enjoyed Ein Prosit bar and Outer Range Brewing.
We took one day to go to RMNP and Estes Park. Highly recommend the green jeep tours through the park, very educational. Of course we had to stop by the Stanley Hotel and get the Shining experience in - if you have a larger group be sure to book your preferred tour in advance, they are typically filled up the day of. Also a very scenic drive to and from.
We took another day to make a day trip to the Blue Lakes, where we hiked to the top of the dam and got some up close shots of mountain goats. Then we went to Fairplay (South Park!) and visited the South Park Museum, which was amazing! A well preserved outdoor mining town museum with 44 original buildings dating back to the mid-19th century that do a great job of illustrating what life was like in the area back in the early Colorado mining days. It's typically open mid-May through mid-October depending on snow. While in town stroll down the historic Main Street and stop by South Park Brewing.
Also spent some time in Golden, ate at Bob's Atomic Burgers and visited the Miners Saloon to kill time before the flight out.
Just some ideas for folks looking for recommendations of something to do.
As for our impressions of Valdoro proper: very positive overall. The location is unbeatable, just far enough away from the action to be quiet, but also close enough to be easily walkable.
Tiffany in the Lounge is super friendly and accommodating. Lounge hours are Sunday - Thursday, 3-10PM.
The gym is well maintained, and there is no shortage of ways to get in a good workout (after acclimating to the altitude!)
Housekeeping was very prompt in restocking coffee and tending to any other requests.
The shuttle drivers were all very friendly and accommodating. They will drive you to or from just about anywhere in town, and can be there within a few minutes.
The only "meh" was the interaction with the front desk staff. They seemed to be generally cold. Quick and efficient to be sure, just otherwise aloof.
We spent seven nights there and are already looking forward to going back.
We did a good job hitting the better-reviewed breweries and distilleries between Estes Park and Fairplay, so if you have any questions specific to that I'm happy to help in any way I can.
