Resorts Owned
Vacation Village at Parkway, Week 52, RCI Points
Grandview at Las Vegas, Week 11
Hi, I own at Vacation Village at Parkway and converted my week to points for a hefty conversion fee. I have just purchased a 1-bedroom at Grandview, Las Vegas which is a sister resort of Vacation Village at Parkway. I would like to know if I would be charged another conversion fee if I want to convert the Grandview week to points. My gut feeling tells me yes in which case I will leave it in the weeks program as I will use it more often than trade but thought if I would just be responsible for the RCI conversion fee I would just go ahead and do that. Does anyone have any knowledge about this or suggestions for me? Thank you!:hi:

Yes, if you bought a weeks unit at Grandview you will need to convert it, only the resort can tell you how much it will be. It wasn't on the last RCI conversion list that I saw.

OK, thanks. I was hoping that given they are sister resorts there would be some crossover. I should have known better :wall: but its cool, I will keep as a week given I will use anually anyway.

Converting weeks to points

Once you have 1 resort in the Points system with RCI for a small fee to RCI you can deposit any other weeks you own into points. You only need to pay for one Points conversion, which I did, then every year you can choose whether you want to use your weeks or deposit them into your points account with RCI. I prefer points because then I only pay for what I use, which is often just a studio, plus I like the weeks I can get for 7500 to 9000 points when I book 45 days or less in advance. We are retired and travel in the winter and spring and have found RCI points plus Last Call vacations very economical. We travelled from Jan to May last year using RCI.

Joe- check with RCI. I was told by RCI a couple of years ago, that as long as you own points, you can convert any weeks resort to points with RCI without paying another conversion fee. You can still go back to using it as a weeks resort if you decide to do that the following year.

Hi, think if the resort is a straight up weeks resort you can deposit for points without another conversion cost but Grandview is a points resort, the unit I bought was not converted over. I sent an email to Grandview they wanted me to call the sales department, I am going there mid-March so I will see what they have to say. I will also be at Vacation Village on Friday for a week and will check with them as well. Just does not see right if they are closely related (sister resorts) that you would have to pay another conversion fee, I would understand if it were a completely different reosrt, well, we'll see.:wall:

POINTS FOR DEPOSIT FEE IS CURRENTLY $26.00 PER INTERVAL DEPOSITED!

I GUESS I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM. IF YOU HAVE ONE RCI POINTS (WEEKS) ACCOUNT THEN THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM.

My understanding is that if it is a points resort you cannot utilize the points for deposit program.

If your resort (Grandview) is in the Points program, you have to pay the resort's enrollment fee. Some resorts enrolled in the Points program later so people who were previously getting the Points for Deposit option (when it was only a Week's resort) must contact the resort to enroll. There is always a fee. Believe it or not!

Yes, I understand about the fees, I paid $2995 at Vacation Village at Parkway. I have no problem with the RCI fee but its the resort fee that I don't want to get charged again given they are sister resorts.

The resorts make alot of money converting weeks to points.

If you had said to the Vacation Village people that you'd only pay them to convert if they agreed to convert both resorts for you, they may have been willing to do so. But now they have no reason to help you. You can still ask them but it is unlikely that they will help.

Sorry.

Thanks Bill, if I bought them at the same time I sure would have but I bought them 2-years apart. I will speak with Grandview next month, not really a big deal keeping it in weeks, just was curious.

FYI, I just received an email from Grandview who confirmed that you must convert both at the same time to avoid a second conversion cost. For someone like me who did not own both at the same time it is not worth it also given that I plan to go out there every year.

Spin-off Question

Are all of the Vacation Villages at Parkway converting to and only selling points?

Not sure about all, but they are really making an aggressive push into points. I am keeping Grandview in weeks though. Vacation Village at Parkway presentation was requesting $5,000 to convert into points - unreal!!!! I paid a huge price when I converted last year $2995. I have read they are still offering that price.

When we attended a presentation a few years ago. VV was offering a points package of every third year for $5K for the full points. We were tempted, but this was before TUG. For that same price, another owner that we met in the hottub at VV was saying they converted two of his weeks to points and gave him the every third year as a bonus for the same $5K. I was wishing I had bought some of the cheap VV on ebay to do the same. I would have jumped on that opportunity and congratulated the guy on his purchase.

Now I see points packages sell on ebay for much less at VV. It is amazing. But just watch, VV will take notice and will stop allowing those points to transfer.
