I have a 3 bedroom at Crystal Shores for August 1. It was to be a family vacation. Unfortunately the family is afraid to go know. The points I used are banked points from last year and will expire in 2020. I thought I could deposit the points for a 3 bedroom into II and have two years to book a vacation. The Marriott rep told me if I did that I can only request any non Marriott or non Westin prosperities. Does that sound right? If I deposited to II I would want to search or request for Marriott or Westin resort.any advise would be appreciated.

The non-Marriott is correct... not sure if Westins are also excluded. Alternatively, you could cancel your week. Rebook something within 60 days and then cancel it and your points would go into a holding account good until the end of 2021. Those holding account points can be booked for anything 120 days or closer to check in. It’s a Covid-19 “special”.

Are there any options with the expiring points? Can you get airline ticket? I just don’t understand why anyone would deposit to II and not be able to get a Marriott resort.

You can’t trade into a Marriott on II with points ( or a week that has been deposited from your points).
You need to use your points to book Marriotts directly on MVC.
Marriott allows the points usage on II in case a points only owner wants a non Marriott location.

To find out what you can do with your points log onto MVC, choose points, and then explorer collection.
But I can tell you from experience banked points are restricted- you can’t transfer them out of your account so you can’t rent them or even give them away.
You can use them to buy insurance, or to buy resort credit if you have a stay before they expire.
Or deposit them into II-that is a great way to extent the expiration by 2 years.
There are many great resorts that aren’t Marriotts. If you have your eye on an upscale or high season vacation I recommend you choose the “high season” deposit option even if your points only allow for a unit test might ge smaller than you want- II allows you to pay an upsize fee for a larger unit if one is available. I also recommend you place a request as far in advance as possible. Good luck.
