Using the IHG Traveller card to pay HICV Maint Fees

Last week I paid my 2024 Maintenance Fees with my IHG Traveler CC. I signed up for the card for the 80k bonus IHG points. I thought I could use the points for free nights in hotels on the way to my TS vacations. I was expecting to get the normal points multiple for paying for a IHG property, but I also got an unexpected statement credit of $50 for paying my maintenance fee. Is this a normal occurrence? I thought the statement credit was only available for the HICV credit card. If this is normal it seems this is a great way to pay for maintenance fees, and save a little in the process.
