Using RCI points for rental car

Hi, newbie here. My father is unable to use his points this year so I worked something out with him to use the expiring points. He booked the vaca for me, and I paid him back the $90 or so for the guest certificate. He still had 30K expiring points so I used them toward a rental car. The car is all booked but I had to buy another guest certificate for another $80 or so. Do one of us need to do anything, to actually get the physical certificate? I am not sure how that part works. Does he need to print it off and then I will hand in to Hertz, like I will do w/ the conda guest certificate in upon checking in to the timeshare? The car is all paid and reserved (and non-cancellable)--I just want to avoid snafus. Any other tips for using his timeshare, as a guest? He may be unable to use his point at all moving forward (he is caring for a discbled person), so I may be using his points for the next few years; I am leery of taking it over from him. Thanks!

I have booked a handful of rentals through RCI for myself and for others. I don't ever remember paying a guest certificate for the rental car. I just put whoever was picking the car up in the spot provided when booking it.

I didn't need my confirmation when picking up the car either. I was in their system just as if I had booked it through their website, or any other OTA.

Same thing with checking into the TS. I have always had my guests have the certificate on them when checking in, but no one has reported back saying they needed it. Perhaps it varies by resort but it should go just like checking into a hotel.

When renting cars with points you don’t need to pay for guest fee. Just put your name on rental...

In your dads account there will be info under his vacations that should have your confirmation number. That’s all you need. I use the points for rentals all the time.

I’m sure this is a stupid question but, How do you rent a car with your RCI points I don’t see the option.

Thanks

It's right there on RCI Points front page. I didn't pursue it enough to get a points value, but experience has shown that using TS points for anything but TS stays gives poor value for your MF.

I would think it does give a poor value there was just talk about it so I was curious, but I did Check the one on the homepage it all it does is give me a total in dollars. So I was thinking there was a different area that you needed to go to to get to the ones in point values. Or maybe just need to complete the reservation to get to points? I was just curious of how many points it would cost.
