Hello All,

I have my Key West home week reserved and cannot use it (March 2-9) Is it possible to cancel the week and use my points to reserve a week in Interval and purchase the certificate that allows me to change my reservation?

I know if I just cancel, my points become LCUP which means I only have a 60 day window in Hyatt to make reservations.

Thank you for your help.

I would call Hyatt today to explore my options if I were you. If when canceling you get CUP or RCUP points you should be able to use them for an II reservation. I think in your situation the points are not LCUP. Speak with the Hyatt representative about this. They have been helpful to me in the past.

Of course you will have to pay a fee to cancel your week.

Since you are within 4 months, you will not be able to move the points to EEE after cancellation - which extends the points 2 years from your March home week. At least you cannot do it online but if you call who knows - but not likely.

The issue is that you are cancelling within 60 days. The points will be restricted. They will be RCUP until March then will go LCUP.

The good news is that RCUP points can be spent on anything you find in Interval. Once the points go LCUP, they cannot be spent in Interval. So that sounds an option - and if you get Eplus you could use the points for a reservation then change it (meaning you could "park" the points).

I am not familiar with all the details of EPlus since i use it but don't move the dates except within a few weeks and don't change the points used. I would suggest calling Hyatt (as mentioned already) and choosing the Interval option and asking them questions if you are not familiar with EPlus.

Thank you very much for your guidance. I truly appreciate it. Can the RCUP be used for Hyatt within 11 months or am I restricted to a reservation made less than 60 days in advance?

RCUP is limited just like LCUP to Hyatt reservations within 60 days. The only real difference in RCUP and LCUP is with Interval - RCUP can be used until it goes LCUP. But Interval will not restrict you on how far out you can book (no "penalty" like with Hyatt. A search may be not help but won't hurt, but you have to spend the points in Interval before they go LCUP.

Both RCUP and LCUP are restricted in Hyatt due to the cancellation being within 60 days - but RCUP points not yet expired one returned (so they can be used in Interval). LCUP means your points are expired but still within the 6 month grace period.

So if (with your Mar 2nd points) you had a late Dec reservation and cancelled very early in Nov, your points would have been restricted in Hyatt due to the cancellation date - but you still could have moved them to EEE before the end of Nov since the points would still have been more than 4 months from going LCUP.

The rules are simple the but combinations can hurt your head. You track the exipiration date of your points, and cancelling within 60 days hurts.
