I have 126,000 Grand Desert points that I've never been able to use in my 6 years of ownership. Since selling them would be a worthless venture I'd like to use them. I don't like Las Vegas but love the California coast. I have points expiring with RCI and Wyndhamm. What would you reccomend? I normally end up renting a condo for a week feeling frustrated about not being able to use points. I thought they were building a resort at oceanside but can't find the info. HELP?

Good news for you -- Wyndham does have a resort in Oceanside and hopefully another Tugger can provide the details or you might Google with the words "Wyndham in Oceanside" and see what comes up. We live just 10 miles south and I have seen the resort -- on the ocean and looks nice!

Welcome to TUG!

Do your Wyndham points expire at the end of Dec 2008? If so, you will need to deposit them with the exchange company you are with (most likely RCI). 126,000 points

Your MAXIMUM deposit would be 3 BLUE Studios and 1 WHITE studio for 4 weeks. Ask (slightly demand) that one of the BLUE studio and the WHITE studio be made VISIBLE.

Then get online on RCI and do some searches with the TWO VISIBLE units. Join TUG for $15 and follow the Sightings thread to look for bulk deposits (when a resort or system (like Wyndham) makes large deposits) which can have units that are the good, the bad and the ugly.

Units that are NOT VISIBLE can be used by calling a VC at RCI and having them do searches for you. Wyndham maintains that these units (while having the same classification and point usage as your VISIBLE weeks) can actually pull more stuff. I personally don't know.

But good luck and have some fun vacationing.

The big thing that nobody in the timeshare talk tell you is about planning windows. Your planning window for hard to get summer/holiday weeks is 13 - 10 in Wyndhams world. Not 1-2 months in non-timeshare planners worlds.

Perhaps you have never used your points because your still operating on the old window and by the time you decide there is nothing that you want left.

Learn learn learn and get better about using it.

Interesting....I got a hold of the oceanside wyndham (weird because 3 months ago they said it wasn't in the system) but I need about 80,000 more points for a 5 day stay. Since selling is out of the question any idea where I should get more points? I've searched here (and by the way this group is awesome; wish I found it earlier, thanks!) with the interest of transferring my deed to another resort (like Oceanside) but they say I need to take that up at the local resort. Anyone have info regarding this?

Thanks,
Mic

Renting points from other owners if done by March 1st, 2009 is an option. Rental market is available at http://forums.WyndhamOwners.org

Don't buy any more points from Wyndham, if more points are needed buy them resale. Wyndham resale points are very cheap now and likely will go lower.
