I drive my mom from Vegas to Phoenix every few months for cancer treatment and checkups at Mayo (great hospital BTW). This next trip we have coming we decided to add a night in Sedona because I had a Hyatt hotel free night that was going to expire. So we are getting a night at Hyatt Vacation Club at Piñon Pointe. I have never been there but if we like it I think I can book it fairly easily again in the future either through Hyatt points/free nights or through RCI exchange.

ANYWAY... the whole point of this post was that I decided to try out using ChatGPT to help me create an itinerary for our short trip. And it WORKED! And it worked WELL!
I asked for a "on day itinerary for two women ages 48 and 78" then added a few changes about dietary preferences, budget etc. Then I used that to create my own and then asked ChatGPT what they thought of my itinerary AND THEY RESPONDED WITH MORE HELPFUL SUGGESTIONS! For example, making a reservation at a popular restaurant and which trails would be best for "a short walk."

Amazing!

I learned 2 new things from your post, that ChatGPT can be helpful with travel itineraries and that HVC at Pinon Pointe is a Category 4!

If you have mobility issues, let Hyatt know that ahead of time. Pinon Pointe has lots of stairs.

Double check everything before you head out. I tried that experiment last year and the itinerary that it gave me was nearly impossible in terms of driving times and difficulty :D.

Here's the link to the 2023 thread (included because the destination was for the BI and that's where you are headed soon, so it may be helpful).

Yes, I noticed right away that ChatGPT had trouble organizing the dates and times for things and making sure they would work even though I asked it to. That's part of why I just used it's suggestions to make my own and they asked for it's feedback, which was helpful.

Day 1 - arrive afternoon/evening
  • dinner at Picazzo's
  • check into hotel
Day 2 - explore Sedona and head out to Phoenix
  • breakfast in room from what we've packed
  • check out?
  • Red Rock State Park - short walk (at 8:30am they have a free guided hike)
  • free audio driving tour (download ahead of time, starts at Red Rock)
  • lunch at Javelina Cantina sitting outside
  • walk and shop - perhaps at Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village
  • check out of hotel if not done already
  • drive to Phoenix check in to other hotel
  • dinner in Phoenix

It is helpful for starting a baseline and then you need cut and paste into MS word or docs and edit from there. The models have gotten a lot more accurate. My recent trip was much better than a year ago but it still forgot to recommend a hotel to sleep on one part of the journey...because why would a computer need to sleep! ROFL.
