I just booked a hotel room using Marriott points I have accrued via my credit card. Why did I need to provide a credit card for this transaction? The points were deducted from my Marriott account. Am I expected to pay for something as well?

Thanks for your help!

Jeni

I am surprised. I have never had to do so.
I do provide a credit card at the front desk when I check in (for incidentals), but I have never had to provide a credit card when booking.

From the details of a Marriott Rewards Points hotel reservation:

Canceling Your Reservation
  • You may cancel your reservation for no charge until 6 PM hotel time on November 17, 2007.
  • Please note that we will assess a fee if you must cancel after this deadline.
  • If you have made a prepayment, we will retain all or part of your prepayment. If not, we will charge your credit card.
  • This fee equals 1 night of your room charge plus tax (for the first night of your reservation).
