I apologize that this is not specifically an MVC question but I am making a hotel reservation with Bonvoy points as a gift for my son and fiance for part of their honeymoon. Just wondering if there are any issues with check in if it is under my name? Or can I add his name to the reservation?

Just add his name to the ressie and all will be fine.

You can also follow up with a phone call to the hotel to be sure it's noted in their records that it's ok for him to check in

I agree, add them. As long as it's not using a free night from a CC or reaching 75 nights, you should be able to add the and likely can do it from the website.

No, not a free night from CC-just points on the credit card from paying those Marriott maintenance fees and points from presentations!! I was able to make a reservation at Ritz Carlton Waikaki Beach. I am hoping that they can see the fireworks from there as I booked a Friday and Saturday night there.

Sounds good. I didn't think that this was such a reward (or it was tied in there) but wanted to make sure. Nothing worse than getting there and not being allowed to check in.

If it were me....I would call the resort and specifically ask the question. Or even better, email them if you can so your son has it in writing.

I would either change it on the website or contact Bonvoy and get it formally changed to their name. This is the only way to be sure there is no avoidable issue IMO.

I’ve done this several times. As others have stated it has to be true points. I usually just call Bonvoy to make the reservation and have them change the name at that time instead of booking online and then calling as it saves a step.
