[Hello HOTELS] Booking Hotels With Abound Points Is Live - And It's Terrible Value, As Expected.

Not using them for anything vaguely pleasant would have been much more stupid.

For our education did you get recognised for any Bonvoy status you have and did you get ENCs for the stay? I'm wondering if Bonvoy will actually recognise Bonvoy status and give perks with this as opposed to not doing so.
Just to update, Yes I was recognized, got the bonus plus points from spend, plus breakfast tickets.
No upgrade as I didn’t need it and was afraid to ask, just incase I shouldn’t have gotten anything.

Yes, I only got 30 cent value, but worked fine for us this time.

Now if Marriott T/S would be as kind as the Vistana side when using pts/ star options for resort credit, that’d be great.

I didn’t even know that you could us the star options for resort credit even the following year as long as booked before pts expiration. I wish Marriott side would do that also as we have things book 1/1/26 and my pts were expiring 12/31/25.
No exceptions 🫤

Did you earn Elite Night Credits?

Had to check, but yes rec’d a night
But did it increment your Elite Night Credits? I think it can still show up in your history but not earn an ENC.

I am sure that with a little time, Marriott or MVC will figure out how to deny status and Bonvoy benefits to those who book with Abound points, just as they promise to do. This is just another example of their bad IT.

They already have.

Ok, I’m the STUPID one!

I actually broke down & used this option. Which wasn’t good price wise. But…

I had a chunk of holding points that are going to expire end of year & with other trips booked just knew I wasn’t going to be able to use them for anything. (Not even resort credit & we already have insurance. I also don’t know what else to do with expiring pts)

So using my (make it not seem so bad) math, I figured we ended up paying the same as cash because we were going to lose those chunk of points anyway.

Ended up booking 1 night at Marriott Newport Hotel RI. that Saturday night was $870 Cash thru Marriott’s.com
Used 2940 MVCI pts so points basically worth .30/pt

Had 1700 in holding (couldn’t find anything good to book, rent or even give away) so basically useless to us at this time.
BUT had to add 1240 GOOD pts (2026pts) to the reservation sooo with my math figured we got about .70/pt value which is pretty much my M/F cost if just calculating the good pts.

Was it a good value? NO
Would I’ve done it if I didn’t have holding pts? NO
Would I’ve done it if we didn’t actually have extra pts? NO
Do I still feel Screwed? Kinda
But at least it was an option offered, I do wish it had a more reasonable conversion rate.

But we got a spur of the moment night at a popular place, middle of summer & short drive away for basically same as cash without actually dishing out additional cash.
So you were able to book a hotel stay with your Abound points that were in Holding? I had to recently cancel a stay unexpectedly. It is a small amount of points, but I don't want to lose them. I didn't think holding points could be used for a hotel stay (although I hadn't investigated the new program too much). I will try to book another resort stay. However, if I can't, then I may use them for a hotel stay.

Update: so I logged on, and yes Holding points can be applied, same rules within 60 days of the stay. Glad I have one more option if I can't book another stay. Being in healthcare, my schedule is variable, so it is tough to plan way in advance. Looking forward to retirement in 9-10 ish years, when I will be able to plan vacations and really maximize our MVC vacations.

I booked a Marriott hotel room for 900+ points for one night.
I got an email confirmation of the booking.

A few days later I happened to look at point history and see a second room was booked with a weird long alpha/numeric confirmation. No email for that booking.

Just a heads up for you folks. Double check your points history.

Did you actually get charged the points twice? Is it possible that the alphanumeric reservation number is from the third party vendor that is facilitating these reservations?

Yes I did - same number of points deducted as if I booked twice. One was a numeric confirmation that sent an email to me. The second was a long alphanumeric confirmation that never did send an email. Same number of points. In fact you just triggered me to check spam folder for that other confirmation. Nothing there either. I'd never have noticed had I not decided to check my points history this afternoon. I chatted with rep online. They recommended I wait until tomorrow when support staff that can correct the points are working. Simply cancelling the second room will put 900 points into holding which is not what I want.

Do either of the reservations show up on Marriott.com? I know they say they don't qualify for Bonvoy benefits, but I am curious if you can see the reservations there in your account?

Great question. No. It does not show up on marriott web site. However an upcoming vacation club booking at a vacation club resort does appear.

Do any of the emails have a Marriott Conf#?
If so, try logging out of marriott.com and then searching for that reservation. Can usually find third-party reservations that way.

Marriott.com cannot find either reservation. It only shows my upcoming vacationclub booking at a vacation club resort.

This was my first time to use vacation club points to book at a Marriott hotel using the Cruises/Hotels link so I was extra careful/aware. Not the best use of points but I had some expiring at the end of the year that I could not push to 2026 so best use other than airline or bonvoy exchange.
My booking (which I got email for is a typical number 754612345 while the extra booking is a confirmation number like 3ZZDKWR1234Q

Moderator Note: Recent post from @dg111 (about receiving two confirmations and points being deducted for both) and replies to it have been merged into this thread after a Report was filed, presumably because with the newness of this usage option it's beneficial to keep all related issues in this one thread for the first year or so.
