My friend ordered a sound card for her old computer on December 4th..
It’s very small. It would be a regular piece of mail if it weren’t necessary to pack it so it won’t break in transit. She lives in Buffalo, New York and is still waiting for it to arrive.

Here's the places it has been so far (from latest to earliest)

Your friend should print this out and take it to her local postmaster and ask what's going on. Take the tracking number too ~ Ron

I agree something is not right; unless the postage on package was not enough for first class deliver.

It looks like next posting will be "Out for Delivery". IMO going to the PO and standing in line to discuss will be frustrating plus. I have had these kind of "slow boat" issues in the past and they have all ultimately worked out.

It happens. I've had an UPS one go to East BF Egypt before it arrived. I have never had one go completely missing. USPS has been the most reliable among UPS, FEDEX and USPS. YMMV. ;)

Cheers

My stepdad sent my stepsisters their Christmas presents in one large box via USPS last year. The box was "lost" and never found. He insured it for minimal because he never had a problem with USPS before. Now he uses UPS. They lost a lot of customers because our family is skeptical of the USPS anyway.

Rick and I constantly get others' mail in our box, and we will either put it back in the mailbox or deliver it to the neighbor who was supposed to get it. Even though we mark it as "not here" the mail person doesn't necessarily pick it up. We put up our flag, too. We have also tried to mail various items and had them ignore the flag and just lump our mail onto the letter we are trying to send. We also had our mail held for our Disney trip in October, but it didn't get held and I had a confirmation email saying it would be. We got back after 10 days to a full mailbox.

I've had exactly this happen with UPS. Following the tracking, a package came within five miles of my home, but then was sent back about four steps to start all over again.

Be careful with UPS during the holiday seasons they hire a lot of temp's employees. Who are just working for UPS very high hourly wage.

TODAY .. the saga of the USPS route walker ...

Had the USPS guy .. United States Postal Service employee .. the regular mailman ... at my GF storefront COMPLAINED how one of his route customers had 2 containers of cookies out on her front steps ... wishing "Merry Christmas" ... one each to the UPS (delivery driver) and the other to FedEx (delivery driver) .. nothing for HIM .. the guy who is their EVERY Mon-Sat .. delivering the USPS MAIL and MANY, MANY times FOR both the FedEx and UPS packages.

I would have been mad, too. The postal workers work in a very high stress, time crunch situation every day. I always feel sorry for them.

I actually thought about not leaving a gift for my mailman because our service has been so bad for a few months. I left some treats in the mailbox yesterday, figuring maybe I'll start getting decent service again. Even though I know it's illegal to put anything in the mailbox, it is where I always leave my gifts for the mail carrier and it's never been a problem. They take it and leave me a thank you card a few days later.

Normally, I only see my UPS driver when I am out walking my dogs. I won't leave it on my doorstep because I get many Amazon deliveries and I don't want the wrong person to get it. Maybe I can stalk the neighborhood and look for him if it ever stops raining.

I want to tip my UPS driver because he is so helpful all year long, but I am concerned it will go to a high paid temp instead. I usually tape it to my door for UPS and leave in mail box for USPS.

I won't tip the mail carrier: My neighborhood has a lock box postal center on a corner, where each house has to go to collect our mail. We don't get mail delivered to our individual homes. I never see the mail carrier, so have no idea who it is, or whether it's even the same person. Many times we won't get anything for two days or so, then we get triple mail on the third day. Makes me think they aren't delivering every day, and they're letting the mail stack up before they deliver it. I've repeatedly had my mail delivered to a house two streets over that happens to have the same house number as mine - and I've received mail for that house as well. I'm not very impressed by mail delivery in my neighborhood.

Postal employees are not perfect ... I lived in a neighborhood where you only got mail SOME days. Enough so, the neighbors who had been there for YEARS complained to the Postmaster (the boss in the post office) who drove the route (mounted carrier service) and calculated the mileage, check the daily mileage (it checked) ... but eventually discovered while the postal employee DROVE the route, he ONLY was picking up MAIL if the flag was up & then he might leave some mail ... as he was already pulled over. So he got the route done FASTER and went home with the undelivered mail. And some days, he did deliver mail.

The post office eventually discovered this by FOLLOWING the driver and getting a warrant for his house ... seems he LIKED games shows more than his job. And he had stacks of mail thru out his house. He claimed mental illness (job stress) and KEPT his job ...

I had gotten a Post Office box before moving to this house ... only junk mail went into my home box... although I did mail stuff from my house regularly.

And since I moved into that house ... in 1984 ... I have only gotten mail at that Post Office box.

FYI-USPS can only accept tips valued at $20 or less. I don't think they are even allowed cash. I always leave a box of candy or cookies in the mailbox- something like that.

That said, I know people do leave cash or gift cards and the PO workers don't refuse them.

Okay ... in MY posts ...

UPS stands for United Parcel System - a separate company like FedEx, Airborne, etc

USPS is the U.S. Postal System.

Are we all on the same page?

Yes- I adjusted my post. It gets confusing with the initials being so close.

This must have been a while ago.

My brother is a USPS carrier and they are GPS tracked all day. The local post master know exactly where each carrier is at all times and if they are maintaining schedule. If they start to fall behind, or are not on their route, they are contacted.

There was a USPS carrier in Norfolk, VA that also did not deliver mail for months. The mail was found in a river basin. The USPS carrier was convicted in court; but in the end the sentence was very like; liked 6 months probation and they could not worked for the USPS again.

Our local neighborhood post offices have had the mounted carriers STRIP away from them ... "group" distribution centers is where they dispatch the mail for delivery. So, you get a notice to SIGN for a delivery (not home) ... you have to put it back into the box signed or go to the group distribution center and ARRANGE for it to be held there or do to you LOCAL post office with the signed slip and have it delivered to YOUR local Post office and check back the next 2 days or so ... waiting for it to be delivered to YOUR LOCAL Post Office.

I get ALL my mail via my Post Office box ... usually twice a week, someone standing in there DUMBFOUNDED as to WHY they can't get their "signature required" item ... I can almost cite the clerk's explanation ...as they have to say it at least 3 or 4 times for the person to GET WHY ... and WHEN and then howl as to HOW they were HOME and no one attempted to deliver it to their FRONT DOOR ... The term is "MOUNTED DELIVERY".

And I am sure, being measured by GPS influences their "service" level.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the USPS package delivery system is 99% on time which is better than either UPS or FedEx. That's been my experience as well. No stats on First Class mail since UPS nor FedEx isn't in this business.

Can't confirm one way or another on all packages, but I regularly order Nespresso coffee capsules. Nespresso promises two day delivery sent via Priority Mail. In my case, it is sent from Florida to rural Wisconsin and the package has been in my mailbox two days after my order every time. That includes a package delivered today at the height of Xmas season.

Where is the OP package?
