Has anyone ever upgraded a resale? I mean, supposed you bought off season at a resort and later you wanted to upgrade to a better season (ie: gold for plat). Do you think starwood would do it based on availability? Has anyone on the board ever done it? If so, what kind of credit toward the new week would they give you for your lower season? The orginal sales price? Just wondering.

We attended a sales presentation and were told we can add our 2 resale Starwood resorts for StarOptions and Elite status if we buy 2 new units from them. Not sure they will do an upgrade on a resale without buying another.

My understanding is that they will upgrade if the price difference is more than $10k and you bought it from the developer. In that case, the trade-in value would be 90% of the purchase price if you bought it more than a year ago. However, if you bought it resale, my guess is that they will let you upgrade only if you buy another unit from them directly, in which case you may be able negotiate to upgrade (and perhaps do aother requal at the same time).

I second that. I went in for a tour and they offered to buy my 2br resale and credit me $10k (supposedly) and I would only owe $21K on a newer 2bedroom unit with StarOptions. I didn't buy though, because my DH refuses to entertain purchasing another TS.
