This is specifically about Bonnet Creek. I have a reservation for a 2BR Presidential unit that is eligible for an upgrade. I do not want it upgraded to a 3BR Deluxe, only to a larger Presidential unit (which I am well aware is not likely to happen). I don't want to opt for a larger unit and it seems silly to opt for an upgrade to a Presidential unit since it is already Presidential.

How do I do that? Or, maybe I can't.

You can't. I believe if it is presidential reserve there will be an option to only upgrade to another presidential reserve. If there is no such option listed in the upgrade you can be upgrade into the next larger regardless of type. Same with view (at a resort with view) a size upgrade request will not factor in view when upgrading.

Wyndham will consider it an upgrade based on size even if it requires fewer points then you originally used and it won't refund those points.

I would go in and change your opt-in preference for VIP Upgrade if being in presidential unit is important... I've done this before because at some sites, I had a 2BR Deluxe reserved at Old Town Alexandria and did not want to be upgraded into a 2BR Lockoff, because the common areas substantially smaller in the 2BR lockoff at this resort.

You can change opt in/out of VIP upgrades after the fact.

I already have a 2BR Presidential. The reservation details are:

Reservation Details
CONFIRMATION NUMBER
RCO00181xxxxBR
RESERVATION MADE ON
03/06/2021
SUITE TYPE
2 Bedroom Presidential (Presidential Reserve)
Requested - Presidential Reserve Suite
RESERVATION MADE BY
James Chapman
TOTAL SUITE COST
XXXXXX points
POINTS PROTECTION
Declined

It I wanted to modify the reservation, here are my options:

Select the option that's most important to you in an upgraded suite:
• Larger Suite
A suite with a greater square footage
• No Preference
A suite with a better view or a larger option

If I select Larger Suite, I could end up with a 3BR Deluxe, which I don't want. View isn't specified. I stick with what I have, I guess.

I would take the space over the presidential if I needed it.

I might too, if the amount of space in the common areas was (significantly) bigger in a 3BRD than a 2BRP. But if the difference in space was negligible, or just tied to the extra room I didn't need, I would probably keep the PR unit. But that's a very personal choice, and I could see it going either way.

I would probably take more space because my wife likes to work out in the suite (yoga and some other cardio stuff) and so a couple times a day we sometimes have to move furniture to give the necessary space for that. Really noticed this on our last trip where we had to cobble together 2 different units in a 10 day stay because of availability. We had a 2BR Dlx the first few nights and a 1BR Dlx the rest of the time. And the difference in space in the living and dining room areas was really noticable. The difference was not as stark as the difference between a 1BR Dlx and a 1BR (which we also had for the kid), but it was noticeable. So much so that I purposely unchecked VIP upgrades for our next stay at this resort coming in December, as i did not was us "upgrading" from a 2BR Deluxe to a 2BR Lockoff. Because I did not want to lose that space in common areas.

Again, it's probably a personal choice a lot of the time. My stays in PR is limited. But what i've experienced, PR is nice, and I felt really spoiled there, so I can understand not wanting to give it up, and wouldn't if I didn't need the space.
