“United plans to begin flying from Newark to Cape Town, South Africa, in December.
If the thrice-weekly route is approved by the Department of Transportation, it would [be] the lone nonstop service between Cape Town and U.S. The route would also mark United's return to Africa after a 3.5-year hiatus.
United intends to service the route with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner equipped with 48 Polaris business class seats, 88 Economy Plus seats and 116 economy seats.
United last flew to Africa in June 2016, when the airline halted service between Houston and Lagos, Nigeria, amid slumping oil prices.”
