I am in the market to buy a timeshare, but doing a lot of research first. I am trying to understand how the Hilton seasons work. I understand that Platinum is the highest demand, then gold, etc.

Let's say I buy a LV timeshare at the Elara Gold season. Does that mean if I want to go to Hawaii with my points down the road that I can only go during gold season or am I just bumped down in priority if I want a Platinum week? Or does the season only apply to when I can go for my "Home" week?

Seasons only apply for home week reservations. After that, points are points.

The season, along with unit size/designation, determines the amount of points you accrue in your account. Points are points as long as you have enough to make the reservation. If you have a gold 2 bedroom at Elara, you won’t be able to book a platinum 2 bedroom in Hawaii unless you bank points points from the previous year or borrow from the next.

Or go for fewer days...weekdays, in particular, stretch a lot further.

Another thing to note is that the unit size/designation is the sole criterion used (for a given resort) to determine MFs. A 2BR is a 2BR for MFs, regardless of season. Therefore, a 2BR Platinum (say 7000 points) would cost the same in MFs as a 2BR Gold (say 5000) points for a given resort. The Platinum week will likely have a higher buy-in price because of this. But it may be worth the price for the MF/point savings over time.

Cheers.
