Our dog sitter canceled on us 10 days before vacation, which was Christmas to New Years (so next week). We are trying to find someone else, but it’s a rough week for last minute (plus other things). So, the husband asked me what is the cancelation policy (Beach House). I looked it up and it says if it’s within 60 days, then they get returned as points to use within the reservation window but only for stays within 60 days (so, basically, LCU). But I’m stuck on the “reservation window” part. These were points that started in March 2021.

What is my reservation window? I can deal with 60 days, as I think I can get Key West Windward within that range. But how long do I have? A year from March 21 (so just another 3 months?)

Also, just double checking, canceling within 60 days gives me another week before check in.. so, if I did this 3 days ahead of time, it would still work?

and yes, I could just post as a last minute rental. But weighing options (and begging everyone I know who could dog sit)

When you say "These were points that started in March 2021", do you mean you used points from your March 2021 week? Or did you use points from your March 2022 week, which were available a year in advance, in March 2021?

If that was your March 2021 week, then if you cancel, the points will immediately expire because they are past 6 months from March 2021.

If those are March 2022 points, then you will receive points back as RCUP. In March 2022, they will become LCUP, and in September 2022 they will expire.

Sorry for the confusion. It was the year in advance. So I guess March 2022. This is very helpful! Plus, I found another thread about 8 pages back that talked about using RCUP in interval with an eplus. So I’m feeling we have options now. Not perfect options, not great options, but options. Although, it will be the second year in a row I haven’t hugged a palm tree for Christmas.

it’s funny, I did so much research when I bought this week about 6 years ago. I understood it all then. Since then, it’s worked like “the points are deposited (a year in advance), I immediately go in an book Key West at Christmas-ish” and then don’t think about it again for two years (EOY use). And then, here I am.

I just doubled checked, and my ownership week is week 12 in even years. So funny bc I think of it as an odd year thing, because of the reasons above.

I am fairly certain only CUP points can be used for making direct Interval International reservations. I don't believe you can use RCUP and you definitely cannot use LCUP.

I would call and confirm with a Hyatt rep before making any assumptions.

RCUP pts can be used for Ii exchanges, but only before the check-in (start)date of your homeweek. After that date, then any RCUP become LCUP. I had RCUP pts in 2020 due to travel shutdown in 1st COVID wave.

Also if you have points in EEE, then the system will automatically use those first in an exchange. I don't know if RCUP will be used next over CUP. @LurkerBee plz check with a Hyatt Ii rep if you will have both RCUP and CUP.

I was way past my EEE deposit deadline last year and called Hyatt Ii service to try to make a placeholder exchange with CUP pts first, then remainder from EEE. The rep told me there was no way they could manually choose or override which pool of pts to use, and an II exchange would always draw from EEE first.
