I don't want to open up the discussion about RCI renting weeks, but I'm curious what happens to those "extra vacation" weeks that don't get rented. Do they become the lower priced "last call" vacations? If so, does that mean they transition to "last call" at 6 weeks from check-in date?

Or do they just go un-used?

I have often wondered this myself. Some seem to go into LAST CALL but others just disappear into never-never-land. As an example, since last year I have yet to see a LAST CALL HAWAII unit whereas before it was not uncommon to see some available a week or less in advance.

Some may end up on http://www.resortcertsview.com/ and equivalent web sites run for Skyauction, etc. RCI sells travel certificates and supply this web site with inventory for use with them.

I have used a few of these for off-season travel. You can find a good deal if you keep looking provided you don't insist on prime resorts.

You have to first buy a certificate on www.skyauction.com. Then they send you a certificate number and information to book either online (I think) or they give you a phone number to call (Hint: RCI answers). The advantage of the certificate is that you can put a second person on the reservation without a guest certificate!
