We checked in to a small 1BR unit at Sheraton Broadway Resort only to learn that the room only has a queen size bed. We didn't check the room details, so it seems this is our mistake but certainly a shock to see such a small bed. The bedroom actually appears big enough to fit a king. The room is pretty much the same setup and size as the small 1BR at Vistana Villages and they have a king in those. I guess we will survive as we are only here three nights and we booked it as a VSN Escape for only 5,400 StarOptions.

That’s a good reminder to read the details. A queen bed would be a challenge for us too. I hope you both can get comfort nights of sleep.

Just for the exercise could you ask for them to switch it out for a king?

The bedroom seems a little tight for a king to me. Before it was Marriott, that was a very plain lockoff side of SBP. I thought the space was designed well, and of course there is still a washer/dryer in that side (and the kitchen is a full kitchen), but the art/knick knacks/flooring was not great.

What do you think of the decor? I haven't seen a small lockoff lately but the pictures on Marriott's website look good.

We slept on a queen for 25 years before switching to a king. I remember disliking kings when we came across one at a timeshare or hotel because Cliff seemed so far away. Sleeping on a queen now is a constant battle to get him to stay on his side. We love Worldmark Pismo Beach, but I inwardly groan when I see the queen bed!

We have deposits to spare, so we almost always get a 2 bdm. to make sure we have extra room, work space, etc.

Patti and I try to always get a 2 bedroom. Extra room for suitcases, bicycles, Kayaks, etc. Plus the one time Patti got sick during a Timeshare stay we were in a 1 bedroom and I slept in Living room.

Well, the queen bed situation has caused use to make changes to our Lagunamar stay. We had an II exchange into a Lagunamar studio. The studios there also only have a queen size bed. We retraded out of that to a placeholder exchange way into next year and booked a Lagunamar 1BR with StarOptions instead. We'll still watch out for a 1BR Lagunamar through our sightings request so we can cancel the StarOption reservation, but at least now we will have a king.

I am also going to measure the bed here at SBR because I am not convinced it is a queen.

If it's any consolation it is only today that I learned/found out/whatever that the bed in a DVC studio is a queen. Even when it has a bed and a sofabed/murphy and not two 'real' beds. I read this thread and said to myself...you know I should check.

We've only been staying in DVC 2BRs for about two decades now...you think I would have noticed. At least at BWV where there are no dedicated 2BRs. Sigh.

I am not convinced a lot of the kings are really kings and it turns out that they are, indeed, not real kings. They are "hotel Kings" which is a fancy way of saying we try to slip this by people and call a smaller bed a king. They could call it an enhanced queen, but where would the fun be in that? Marketing would not like this!

And I too am so used to king beds being everywhere now that I often forget to check. Not such a big problem at TS, but a must at Airbnb where many are queen beds.

This is true. I am aware of the"hotel king". I wonder if the bed in our room is a "hotel queen" and not as large as a normal queen. I need to fid our measuring tape to confirm.

If we were using our deposits and a 2BR is available, we would have taken a 2BR. When using StarOptions we are a little more frugal with them.

WMH (small 1Bd) also has a Queen - never again. Plus, frame was broken and had to get up in middle of night, pull it apart and re-build it.
Robin slept on sofa couch. Fun!
I am surprised how few AirBnBs have King beds. In our area (Touristy) - 80% are eliminated if filtering using a King bed.
We bring a standard King fitted-sheet (not Cal King that we have at home) with us for our Vistana/MVC stays - has always fit perfectly - so haven't had a hotel King yet.

Well, now you have something to complain about there!

The two of us have an upcoming and very provisional short stay for which my intention is/was to stay in a studio. I don't/didn't want to borrow yet more 2027 points to book a 1BR and leave them stuck in 2026 if the stay doesn't happen. Again...sigh.

That borrowed points put into a cancelled reservation go back to their original use year is one of the things I truly love about MVC.

As I'm sure you're aware, there are two sizes of conventional King beds too, the California King and the Eastern King.

The California King is 72" W x 84" L, and the Eastern King is 76" W x 80" L. Unless you're really tall, the Eastern King is probably preferable as it provides 4" of additional width, which is usually what people care about.

I'm not aware that there is such a thing as a "Hotel King" – I suppose it's possible that a hotelier ordering a large quantity of mattresses and foundations could get them in a custom size to work with their room sizes and needs. I did find some info online that suggests that a "Hotel King" might exist, and if so, it's the smaller dimensions of the two King varieties, i.e. 72" x 80".

If you think your queen sized bed isn't really as wide as a queen, it might actually be a double bed, which are not uncommon. Those are about 6" narrower than a queen and shorter too. They are close enough that they might look like a queen to the eye, but once you try to put two people into a double bed, you'll need to be very cozy with each other to make it work. It's not uncommon to run into double beds outside the U.S., I haven't seen them toooooo often here, but one in a while, yes.

Our bed at home is a split king, 78 X 80 because it's got the head and foot adjustments on a remote control. The 76 X 80 kings seem small, but two inches shouldn't even be noticeable.

We’ve run into the same issue at Westgate Branson Lakes. They have a larger 1 bedroom with a king and a smaller 1 bedroom with a “queen”. We took mine look at that “queen” and we’re both certain it wasn’t bigger than a full size bed.

I could have swore the bed we had was also smaller than a queen, which is 60". We had a ruler with us and I used it to measure the bed. Sure enough it was a queen. I talked to someone else today who was staying in the small 1BR at SBR and they also commented on the queen bed.
