Uber is Good

Has anyone used Uber on Oahu - Honolulu/Waikik Area? If so, what did you think of it.

We walk or take the bus, if it is too long to walk, everywhere in Waikiki or Downtown Honolulu. A friend of ours who doesn't walk anywhere and stays at the Moana Surfrider raved about Uber when he was there in January We would just walk or take the bus to meet him at restaurants.

We didn't use Uber, however, I checked the prices on the app and it was much cheaper than taxis. We will use them next time in July.

Type your location (HNL) into the Uber app on your phone. Your answer will appear!

I've read some reports online of disputes between Uber and taxi drivers, I wouldnt try arranging a pickup near a taxi stand. One report mentioned Uber driver not being allowed into the parking lot for drop off at Hanauma Bay.

I'm going to take Uber today to Aloha Stadium swap meet from Waikiki, I'll see what the driver has to say. I'll walk out to the marina before arranging pickup.

We took a cab from the airport yesterday, it was $45 with tip to HHV.

Uber took about 5 min to arrive at HHV, it appears there are plenty of drivers that work the Waikiki area. When we were ready to leave the swap meet there were no drivers in range of UberX so the app was offering UberXL for a higher price, almost double the normal rate. We walked down the street to the KMart and I tried again and it found a driver, she had just finished an airport run. They can drop off at HNL but not pick up there. She did say some people walk to the USPS facility there at the airport and Uber is allowed to pick up there. It was about $21 from Waikiki to Aloha stadium, which is past the airport.

Caveat to that - they can pick up anywhere, but the cannot pick up at the normal taxi stand area outside of baggage claim. You'll see them at the far left of baggage claim. - Just got backhome today...very sad.

I once took the city bus from the upper deck at the airport to Waikiki and it worked great. I wouldn't suggest this with a bunch of luggage however.
