I'm still in my first UY and can't find answers in the Hyatt resources or in the stickies. I have two questions. I'm figuring "yes" to both, but just double checking.
1) Can I combine LCUP with CUP points to make a reservation
2) Are CUP points canceled within 60 days of C/I allowed to be moved to II?
TIA

1. Yes.

2. Depends. If you cancel the reservation within 60 days before check in, points become RCUP if you are still before the check in date of your original week (not of the reservation you cancelled). RCUP points can be moved to EEE (II) if you are more that 4 months before the check in date of your original week. If you are less than 4 months, but still before the check in date of your original week, then RCUP points cannot be moved to EEE, but can still be used to confirm II exchanges, manual or requests. Once you are past the check in date of your original week, RCUP points become LCUP and cannot be used for II. Very "simple" and "easy" system.

1) Yes. As long as the reservation is within 60 days and it will use the restricted points first.

2) Depends on the age of the points. If the points are past original use date but within 6 months after they are LCUP. If the points are before use date they are RCUP. Both buckets are restricted to 60 days from checkin - but RCUP can be used in II since they are not yet expired.

I agree the rules are simple. But the application of the rules is not always easy! ;)

Thanks! Are you being facetious? So many acronyms and dates to remember, it's my most confusing ownership.

The system was designed by engineers and then sold by game show hosts.

Ignore the alphabet soup and just remember 1 yr, 6mo, 4mo and day-zero.

1 year: You can get your points and start using them immediately. A good year for us is when we spend all our points 15 minutes after receiving them. Sorted.
6 mo: Your unit is turned into points whether you like it or not. This is a feature which keeps the system from being ruined by procrastinators.
4 mo: Deadline to deposit into II. If you haven't found anything by now, you should do this. Now your points are good for an extra year.
day-zero: Your points become limited. LCUP points aren't worthless. But they have so many restrictions that it's just a bad idea to let it go this far.

4 mo: Deadline to deposit into II. If you haven't found anything by now, you should do this. Now your points are good for an extra year.
See there's another unique thing to Hyatt. The rules say EEEP extends 24 months from your use week, but you need to deposit by month 8 (correct?) so then you should have 16 months to use the points??

When I'm doing II exchanges, I typically drop my entire year into II the minute I get my points. Now I have 24 months.

And I want those points in II just as fast as humanly possible, because I put in half a dozen requests in immediately -- unicorns. If the unicorns aren't happening, I still have months to wrangle something more mundane.

Wrong application of the numbers...

If you deposit points into EEE as soon as you get them that is 12 months before with 36 months to use. 8 months before is 32 months to use. 4 months before is 28 months to use. Past that (4 months before, 8 months passed) you cannot deposit them in EEE - but 3 months before would have 3 months to use them. So if you like to use Interval and commit the points to EEE Interval use only (cannot be brought back for Hyatt use) you really have extended to life of those points.

So with your original question about use of restricted points follows the same rules of points age but the 60 day out reservation restriction was layered on top due to a late cancellation.

Simple rules, sometimes complex application. The "bucket" names just help track possible use and possible restrictions of points. And the online dashboard tracks every bucket and points expiration date.

Well you obviously see why I needed to come here for clarification:doh:
I have plenty of other trading options with II, so depositing there would be a last option before LCUP. 28 months in advance is more than any other deposit I could make, so my request for the "unicorns" should still be ahead of most people, except for TSs with owner exchange priority.

If only I was able to know for sure that I could use my deeded week for that week every UY, or just go directly for II like ScoopKona, then Hyatt would be "simple"

We know that we will use an Interval studio every year so we stuff an extra years worth into EEE plus 10 points to cover a 1br.

The hyatt points seem easy until we have a hurricane ...

If only we knew ...
