While planning for a trip to Hawaii next year, I noticed Turtle Bay (north shore, Oahu) listed in the RCI directory. Seems odd on many counts--especially since Marriott will be managing the resort.

Has anyone been able to book Turtle Bay through RCI? If yes, was it a cash/points deal? I saw one reference to that in an older thread.

Very surprising. I thought it was being rebranded as Ritz Carlton.

Looking at a map I do see Ocean Villas at Turtle Bay which look to be private ownership condos not operated by Marriott International. I suspect, like Floriday's Resort in Orlando, that perhaps the rental management company puts some of them into RCI to rent the units. Floriday's is also full ownership condo that were built primarily for the vacation rental market. They show up in Interval International every now and then, both in Getaways and Exchange.

I think it's private ownership but at least partially managedbythehotel. I've stayed in the Ocean Villas at Turtle Bay a long time ago. VERY nice but also VERY expensive to rent. If I remember correctly I booked through the hotel website and checked in at the hotel lobby. Looking online now it appears you can book the villas through other companies but also Marriott's website.

Turtle Bay's hotel has changed management many times over the years. It was a Hyatt and then a Hilton during my childhood. I'm curious to see what type of upgrades the hotel received to become a Ritz-Carlton.
