Trying to figure out upgrades

I am trying to figure out exactly how the instant upgrades work for VIPs. Please tell me what you believe this to mean and your experiences. In my experience in the past I have been able to upgrade from a 1 bedroom suite to a unit with a better view or that was larger (More Bedrooms). This meant before that if I upgraded from a 1 bedroom and there was a 2 bedroom deluxe and a 2 bedroom Presidential I had my choice which I wanted to take. Now it seams that only the deluxe can be upgraded too. I think this is fair given the Presidential is a “better” suite, but given this definition I think that an upgrade from a 2 bedroom deluxe to a 2 bedroom Presidential should be an option. I know I it may be a small thing but I have a little extra time and feel like whining a little. LOL. Please give me your thoughts and if you think this is something that should be addressed.

This question has been asked for a long time now. In some cases, you can upgrade from a 1-bedroom deluxe to a two-bedroom presidential. In other cases, you can only upgrade a one-bedroom deluxe to a 2-bedroom deluxe. I suspect the resort decides what an "upgrade" is and what upgrade path you can follow. It seems there is no one size fits all answer.

The upgrade path also depends on what is available and the specific resort you are trying to upgrade at.

You can only go from a 1 BR Deluxe to a 2 BR Deluxe if the 2 BR Deluxe is available. If the 2 BR Deluxe is NOT available but larger units or presidential units are available, then that upgrade will happen.

Most locations do NOT have views but the few that do the progress is Deluxe, to Ocean View, then to Ocean Front. It does depend on the location and what rooms types are available.

That is understandable but if I follow that reasoning if i cannot upgrade to a 2 bedroom Presidential because there is a 2 Bedroom Deluxe available shouldn’t I be able to upgrade to the presidential from the deluxe.

No, that is NOT an upgrade, because they view these as same size unit. You used to be able to upgrade like this, but not since the new website 3 years ago. Can't upgrade from 2 BR to 2 BR Presidential. Not a possible upgrade path.

I am wondering if the Presidential Reserve is a different story since that is how the “better Suite” definition reads. OK this is my last post my teachers hated me because I would be so literal

Just minutes ago, I upgraded a 1BR Suite to a 2BR LO, jumping over a 1BR Deluxe and a 2BR Deluxe. This was at Old Town Alexandria.

Also, at National Harbor, I jumped from a 1BR Deluxe over a 1BR Deluxe w/ Balcony and a 2BR Deluxe (maybe another one in there as well) to a 2BR Presidential.

I know those upgrades don't answer all the questions. I'm not sure that Sandy is correct anymore. For sure, it was that way under Voyager, to the major annoyance of those of us who bought and paid dearly for the ability to upgrade. I need to try the 2BR Deluxe to 2BR Presidential if I can find one.

Edit (ten minutes later): Well, that didn't take long and Sandy is correct. At National Harbor, 7/18-7/25, I picked a 2BR Deluxe and I was not offered an upgrade to either a 2BR w/ Balcony or a 2BR Presidential. There was a 1 BR Deluxe and that would upgrade to the 2BR Presidential. I know that because I just did it an hour ago.

So despite talking about an upgrade to "better suites" and "next desirable suites," it isn't doing what it says. Maybe it will in good time or maybe that was never Wyndham's intention. If not, change the wording so it is clear that an upgrade means bigger, and only bigger.

By the way, that's a pretty good upgrade if someone wants to sweat it out in the metro DC area in late July. 178,000 for a 1BR Deluxe, 50% discount down to 89,000, and upgrade to a 2BR Presidential that at full price is 326,500 (163,250 at half price). National Harbor is one of several resorts where it is cheap to own, expensive to stay.

honestly, I've given up on trying to figure out what upgrades are allowed. I have only to believe what is offered to me is what is available.

It never made sense for the three years under Voyager. Since the wording is what we'd like to see, I have some hopes for this iteration. Maybe unrealistic hopes.

100% resale!!
Sounds like Wyndham's way to passively reduce the value of VIP benefits.
