Tropical Storm Norma expected to hit Cabo as Cat 2 Hurricane this weekend

The latest says it may be a CAT3 by the time it makes landfall. This would be the fourth major hurricane to hit Cabo since records began at the turn of the 20th century.

Well this is a bummer. We were going to drive to Cabo this year. Maybe next time.

We are set to go Christmas week. Hoping it mostly misses Los Cabos or at the very least dies down enough to not cause significant damage. My hope is both selfish (my trip) and borne out of empathy for the locals and the tourism economy.

I'm with you on that 100%.

When I first went to Cabo I thought the curbs in some areas were made way too high. After a big rain I saw why. It usually doesn't rain in Cabo but occasionally it dumps.

Just an update. Power was out for a few days, and crews have been cleaning up debris. Cabo escaped Hurricane Norma with little damage that we can see. Everyone was very relieved.

So sad to see that Acapulco was hit by Hurricane Otis overnight - which DID come onshore as a Cat 5. News reports say they had 165mph winds!

I've been thinking about you. Hope that you guys are having a good time.

The rise in intensity from 50 MPH winds to 155 MPH winds in such a short time frame apparently set a record for rapid intensificaton
Reported by Weather Channel people this morning
I have not seen any reports yet from the area

You realize how high the curbs are when you can’t get out of your car!

Yup. Curbs and topes. I'm glad they removed the cement topes. Hearing the scraping under a rental car when going over some of those topes was always a B clencher.

Thanks for the update. Are you near Medano beach? Curious about how The Office and Mango Deck held up.

We’re out at Vista Encantada, but we were in town for dinner yesterday at Salvatore’s and then walked around the marina. There just doesn’t seem to be any significant damage anywhere. Some mud on roads, ruts need fixing, and general clean up to do. Electricity was out until yesterday for many people/businesses in town. Bisbee was postponed for a couple of days, but is going strong now. There were even three big cruise ships in the bay yesterday. Cabo was very lucky this time.

Great news. I’ll be heading to La Pacifica after Thanksgiving.
