I have an exchange for Thanksgiving. Do you guys think we will be ok to travel? I would hate to buy airline tickets and not go. Should we wait??
Thanks

I would wait to buy airline tickets. I bought our tickets to go to Fiji a few weeks before the covid SIP/SAH. Fiji Air is not offering refunds. I need to use the credit by Dec 31, 2021. I wish I would have waited just a few weeks. Now I am being ultra conservative with buying airfare in the future.

Until they come up with a vaccine or the virus disappears, it will be risky to travel. Holland America Line cancelled my October New England Cruise and all Alaskan cruises, as an example.

It all depends on your level of comfort, where you are going and what restrictions might still be in place.

A little more info might help here.
For example, if your flight is direct my comfort level would be higher compared to having to make stops and plane changes.
Crossing any borders?
What is the current status for your destination?
If your destination is NYC, that's a different thing than a destination that is more open and spread out.

I don't think anybody here's crystal ball is any better than yours. For me, I'd make sure any hard reservations are fully changeable/refundable. We have a deposit down on a transatlantic cruise in that time frame, but only a $50 deposit and no flights booked. I don't have much faith that it'll happen, but the ressie was made long before CV-19 was a thing.

I have an exchange for Aruba for that week. I will buy tickets with my plane tickets with my SW points and if I cancel just get them back. My guess is that I'm 80% sure we won't be going, especially if we see another waive in the fall.

We're gonna fly cross country in mid-December.

From AskthePilot.com --
Studies have shown that even a crowded airplane is no more germ-laden than other enclosed spaces—and usually less. Boeing says that between 94 and 99.9% of airborne microbes are captured by underfloor filters, and there’s a total changeover of air every two or three minutes — far more frequently than occurs in offices, movie theaters, or classrooms.

I'm not just concerned about the airplane but also the airports.

We're booking several trips, starting in July and currently through October. All are 100% cancelable, using Southwest points and hotel loyalty points. We will continue to book. We expect to cancel everything =(

We already have a "local" exchange (2 hour drive) booked for Thanksgiving. I have one remaining eplus for that week but I'm hoping that I don't have to use it.

I think that eventually we are all going to have to adjust somewhat to living with the active virus. People who are young and healthy will feel more confident traveling, people who have risk factors may scale it back until there is a vaccine or until the virus goes away. I know that for us, driving two hours and being in a timeshare unit does not worry me. We can bring our own food and stay away from public areas of the resort. We do a lot of hiking and will do that with some type of mask no matter where we are. I am less confident about flying, and even less confident about going to the gym. I am going to continue using shopping services because that risk (shopping) is easily reduced - so why not? I'm hoping to work from home two or three days a week, as is my husband. We rarely went to the movies before covid, obviously that isn't going to change. The most difficult decision will be sports, and that is just going to be a wait-and-see thing for us.
