We have booked an II exchange for Unit: 21D (2 Bedrooms)
Week: 51.
Trapp Family Lodge Guest Houses

I read somewhere that the guest houses are being renovated one by one. Does anyone know when the renovations will be complete? Does the unit number 21D mean anything in an exchange at this resort? Any advice for travelling to this resort? I am very excited about this exchange actually.

Where is the Trapp Family Lodge Guest Houses? We are seeing the show "Sound of Music" in August, isn't the family in that show called the Trapp Family?

Yes this is the eventual landing place of the Von Trapp family of the movie. During their tour they tell you what they got wrong in the movie. I believe it is Maria's grandson that currently runs the resort. He is a son of an American born child if I read the family tree correctly.

The great grandchildren are running various aspects of the resort there. Definitely take the tour. The family is buried right on the premises. You will meet the family- they often mingle with the guests and usually the great granddaughter talks at the end of the tour. The grounds are beautiful. Great brewery they run there now also. You will like it. Not to mention Stowe is wonderful and has some really good restaurants.

Then you have Smugglers Notch State Forest itself which you should definitely drive through (an experience in itself) and stop to explore. I know the area very well if you have any questions. Been going up there for 20 years. We own at Smugglers Notch resort.

Yes we have been to Smuggler's Notch with our Grandchildren twice. They loved it. We liked the idea of a shuttle so we could go to restaurants after having a few beers or wines and salad in the room and not have to worry about driving under the influence. We DON'T drink and drive. Did not go to the brewery for the same reason we like the shuttle. Been to Stowe at least once each time we go to the big grocery store.

I've seen the show before and I like it. This will be done by Gateway Center for the Performing Arts in Bellport on Long Island about 20 minutes from us. They use all equity actors from NYC in the main parts and most of them have been on Broadway. I'm sure we'll like it since we are season ticket holders and see at least 5 shows a season and they are all very good.

Typically one gets the unit one exchanges into, but maintenance or other issues may cause TFL to reassign you to another unit.

Building 21 is in Village 2, nearer the DeliBakery and farther from the Lodge. Renovations seem to be ongoing. My guess is this Guest House has had the initial renovation but maybe not the one that includes the large screen TV over the fireplace. D is a bottom floor unit. There will be someone above you, but only unusually rude and inconsiderate people will make enough noise to disturb you. We've heard it has happened. If you are lucky, the room above will be unoccupied. There is some noise on the stairs, but that happens given the nature of the construction. Can't hold that against people. As I recall the building and its location, there may be quite a few stairs leading to your unit, even though it is a bottom floor unit. We have started asking for the bellmen to come to our unit and help move in. They are grateful for the healthy tip.

Stowe is a fairly easy drive on various major highways depending on where you are coming from. If you intend to fly first, there are several options. We'd need to know your plans to comment more on travel.

Sam, Maria's grandson, now runs the resort. Johannes, Maria and the Captain's youngest son, ran the resort for many years and still has a presence, but he seems to have turned control over to his son.

If you are lucky, there will be snow on the ground, making snowshoeing and cross country skiing an activity right on the grounds. Local ski downhill resorts will probably have some slopes open.

I didn’t see at first that you booked week 51. Therefore, the Notch road will be closed that time of year.
