Transfer Starwood Vacation Property

My brother recently passed. I’m interested in taking ownership of his Starwoods Vacation Properties in Vistana Villages Orlando.

What do I need to consider?
What fees should I expect?
Can I insure the StarOPTIONS program transfers?

I’m sorry for your loss. I would contact Mary at LT Transfers, she is amazing and can handle the transfer. They are significantly less than other closing companies and customer service has been incredible, which I rarely say. The StarOptions will transfer over to you because it is a mandatory resort. Fees: probably in the $200 range.

There is no need for insurance on a free transfer within a family.

The points may or may not transfer with the deeded week - it depends on the phase of the resort: Bella and Key West phases only.

The ability to transfer StarOptions is usually dependent on which phase at Vistana Villeges is owned, since some of the phases are voluntary, however I believe when transferring to an immediate family member it does not matter if it’s a voluntary or Mandatory resort/phase all privileges will transfer.

I am not sure that a brother qualifies - I thought it was direct decendents. I would contact the Vistana title office and verify, before I did the transfer:

From the VSN governing documents:

"Only Owners who acquire their Vacation Ownership Interest directly from the Seller of a Network Resort or from resales brokered by an authorized resale company of Seller, a subsidiary or affiliated company of such Seller, or transferees of such Owners by will or intestate succession, or present or future children of such Owners who have otherwise succeeded to their parents’ interest are eligible to become members of the Network. In addition, Network Operator may, in its sole discretion and in some circumstances, transfer Network membership to an Owner’s immediate family member if the Owner has transferred title to the Vacation Ownership Interest directly to that immediate family member. Immediate family members mean the Owner’s spouse, domestic partner, children, brother, sister, parents and parent-in-laws."
