Hey all,

Between my husband and myself we both have a bunch of us air miles. I cancelled our dividend miles card last year since we just never seem to fly them anymore and didn't see the point in paying the annual fees....

So, no where to go at the moment, so I don't want to book a partner airline flight.

Is there a way to transfer my miles to another airline program...like American, preferably, but open to any options...Thanks!

How can I save these miles?

Thanks for the help, Cheryl

I think I have continental miles, too in the same boat, but probably not as significant...if you had thoughts there too.

miles

You have 3 choices. First, you could keep the miles and find a way to keep them from expiring like to buy something that will get you points. It doesn't have to tickets-just something that will earn points. That would be my first choice. Second, you could go to www.points.com and get a small fraction of what they are worth. Third, you could go to www.webflyer.com and look at their conversion table to see what they will convert to. You need to understand that miles are part of the airlines loyalty program and they are not too keen on letting you find a way to fly on a different airline. It's a little bit like stopping in at McDonalds and asking for the directions to the nearest Burger King. OPPs you have a fourth choice- let them expire-only the airline will be happy with that choice.

The fastest way I know to earn some miles in order to keep those you already have from expiring is to join and use the airlines' dining program. Go to http://usairways.rewardsnetwork.com/ and sign up with your USAirways Dividend Miles number, registering any of your credit cards. Then eat out at any one of the listed restaurants and pay for your meal with the credit card you registered. Be sure that you dine on a day that the restaurant is giving miles. Your miles should post within a few days.
By the way, there is a possibility that USAirways will be merging with Delta.

uh...eat out?...what's that?!!!!

Thanks, Judy...great suggestion...uh...only problem is I have 3 week old twins...no eating out for this kid for a while. Ha!

No, perhaps my husband could do take-out some where though.

Thanks, Jimster...

I think I had better just use one of the suggestions to earn some miles to keep them alive...I was just hoping there was a way get rid of them or exchange them taht wasn't so penalizing. According to the inside flyer calculater, I would end up with I think less than 5,000 miles for 100, 000 surrendered...DEAL!

Might even have to sign bcak up for the dividend miles card and get the 15K referral points....

There are a zillion (almost a zillion) ways to create activity in your Dividend Miles account, including doing some last-minute Holiday shopping at the Dividend Miles Shopping Mall. Although not cost-effective, you can even purchase miles to add to your account. Adding miles or transferring miles in or out will get you an 18-month extension on the expiration date.

One option not discussed is donating the miles to charity. If you go to the airlines web page for the frequent flyer program, you should find donation info.

Charities such as the "Make a Wish Foundation" use these miles to transport kids with severe medical issues (and their parents) to places like Disney.

Sounds like a great way to say thank you for having two healthy babies.

(Tongue in cheek...) You could have your husband fly to Miami, do some take out Chinese and fly back with the dinner. That way, you can your miles and eat them too.

Thanks. Great suggestions all around. I used to really be into the miles scene, but life gets busy. I guess I forgot there were so many ways to earn or use miles to create "activity" in the account.

ITunes

If I just read this right... Following the link to the Dividend Miles Shopping Mall:

http://www.skymall.com/usairwaysmilesmall/homepage.htm

I see a link to iTunes that reads: 2 miles per $1 spent at iTunes

That seems the easiest way I can find to stay active.
