We've been converts to sleeping on memory-foam ever since we made the switch to Tempur-Pedic a few years ago.

Tempur-Pedic is so comfortable that now we're thinking about replacing our conventional RV trailer mattress with memory-foam. All that's holding us back is uncertainty over how well memory-foam holds up under temperature extremes inside the trailer when we're not there -- freezing cold during the winter off-season, blazing summertime heat during intervals when the RV trailer is temporarily unpopulated & the air conditioner is off.

Any knowledgeable TUG-BBS folks who can advise about this ?

Hi Alan
We added a 4" memory foam on top of our rv mattress and on top of 2 slabs of conventional foam, just to get a decent sleep! This was 3 years ago and the memory foam is still in great shape and still has its 'memory'!

We don't camp in continuous heat or cold, but have had the trailer unhooked in freezable weather, rain, heat waves, did I say rain?

I wouldn't worry too much. Keep your dri az air crystals going or the electric type, to keep away moisture.

When we bought our Tempur-Pedic, the salesperson told us about their 30 day guarantee if we didn't like it we could return it... so I had to ask if any ever came back and he said only one... the person had one at home and loved it so he bought one for his cabin in the Poconos, but he would turn the heat down when he was away and when he went up to the cabin for a winter weekend, the bed took about 12-15 hours to get up to temperature.

I know when ours was delivered, it was in winter and that mattress was hard as a rock for at least 10 hours and didn't actually get to full comfort until the next night.

I think it would hold up to the cold but if you are planning on using it during the cold weather... it could be a problem giving it time to come up to temp...

The mattress in our trailer (actually a horse trailer with sleeping area) isn't tempur-pedic, just a very thick, heavy duty foam type mattress. It has held up well under our extreme heat, though (summers get well over 120 degrees inside the parked trailer when not in use.)

Sorry I don't have experience with Tempur-Pedic, but one thing I have found that helps RV mattresses and pillows survive longer is getting one of those zippered cases for the pillows AND mattress. I'm talking about the hypo-allergenic kind that won't let dust and allergens contact the mattress. I have found them on Ebay, but I think some mattress stores sell them, too.
