Trading into Timber Lodge

How difficult is it to trade into to Timber Lodge in the summer? We have a trader but haven’t had any luck. Wondering if we need to own there instead? Any insight would be helpful.

We were able to trade some Hyatt points and got a 1BR at Timber Lodge for June 18-25 via an instant exchange. I would consider that to be early summer, but understand that summer in general can be a difficult trade. We have used Abound points to trade into the resort before, but that's different.

I have seen both June and August weeks available as instant exchanges. July weeks are definitely more rare. I assume with an ongoing search 12-13 months in advance you would have a very good chance of getting a 1BR and possibly even a 2BR.

Is your trader a Marriott? If not that would reduce the likely due to the Marriott preference period.

Several August 2br weeks have been sitting in available instant exchange inventory for a long time, as of a few days ago.

With Interval I have had good luck trading into the Timber Lodge using my Hyatt points.

What size unit do you want?

Three bedroom is tough but not impossible. A few years back I exchanged into a three bedroom unit at the end of August Using Hyatt Points.

Two bedroom is a little easier. I haven’t booked a two bedroom in the summer. But many many times in the winter for skiing.

One bedroom even easier. Although not summer I easily exchanged into a one bedroom over Memorial Day weekend.

Studio I would expect to be very easy. I traded into a studio checking out July 3rd. Also checking out July 13.

But it all depends on how flexible you are with dates.

We went right after they re-opened after Caldor Fire. Traded with Interval from another Marriott (not sure which---might have been Hawaii). I saw nothing at first, but did an ongoing search (deposit first) and maybe 3 weeks later got confirmed for the week I was looking for (last week in September). Real nice place. Walk to Nevada (ha).

Grand residence is right next door, in case you want to try that also. Ownership at Grand Residence is largely quarter shares and owners deposit throughout the year. The resorts are similar. I like the room layout at Grand Residence a tiny bit better but not enough that it’s ever a decision maker. Only a few of the grand residence units have washer/dryer in the unit which is a drawback when staying a week…but there are free common washer/dryers.

These are both great resorts, there’s a good chance we will see you there! Have fun.

I am letting go of a 2 bed at Timber Lodge for 6/18. I booked it months ago, but Rick decided not to go that week. I always add retrade. Sort of hoping to get 8/6 at Saratoga Springs with that week for the kids and grandkids and our DIL's folks. Really need a 2 bedroom.

If your search includes 6/18, there is a possibility.
