tipping on tours

I think tipping is good and proper...IF...service justifies the tip. In Iceland, we tipped our 2day tour guide $20 and he was VERY thankful and did not expect it. We have been blessed to live here in USA, and I do not want to be that ugly, cheap American who does not show gratitude, even if it is in the form of a tip.

Tipping in general, non-tour related:
Just this week someone on Nextdoor posted their receipt from a small local restaurant. The receipt had the usual 15%-18%-20% tip calculations/suggestions printed at the bottom. The calculations were wrong to the tune of approx 30% higher than they should have been. So anyone not doing their own calculation and just glancing at the bottom of the receipt and picking a number would be over paying.

30% off on those precalculated items seems odd. I do know that restaurant systems often calculate that based on after tax amounts, but no tax (at least not here) is 30%.

Long time ago, we had a bill for 30$. automat Tip added was $12. Manager insisted that was 18%. He was shocked when I did the math.

His math was 30-18=12. He slept through the percent unit.
