It is best to split your lock-off into 2 separate reservations when you make your original reservation. I didn't so, when I went to reserve at Princeville they didn't have any two bedrooms available. So, I had to reserve a 1 bedroom. In turn that cancelled my entire reservation at WKORV so, I loss my view. UGH... I was able to re-reserve my studio week at Westin Ka'anapali but I loss my view preference. I might try at another 12 month window and reserve Xmas week or something (she said that if I cancelled I could be subjected to a cancellation fee). Or I could turn my studio in for points (not a great value) or I could rent it or I could keep trying at Princeville to get the studio side?

If you book your original lock-off as two separate units, is there a good chance that they would not be together?

Was your original goal to book your home resort as a backup, and hope that a two-bedroom was available at WPORV? I'm surprised that all the two bedrooms are gone. How many are there, and are they still under construction?

Bummer about losing your view preference at WKORV :( !

Cancelling any Staroption reservation is $29. I have not been charged if I cancel/change my home resort reservation if I rebook during the home resort preference period.

I thought about that when I was shopping that if you did split your reservation into 2 you'd probably wouldn't be together knowing the room assigner in Maui. I'm not sure what a person should do in this situation.

Yes, my original goal was to book my home resort as a backup. I figured if I didn't get the Princeville location that I could always rent the Maui one and use the funds to rent in Princeville. I'm happy we got at least a 1 bedroom because I used frequent flyer miles to book the air at 11 months out so, we have to go to Kauai. Now, dh was willing to fly to Kauai and then, fly back to Maui to stay at the WKORV. I told him that he was crazy.

I just might rent out the studio. This sucks because how to I describe the unit? Do I say you might get an ocean view unit but I'm not 100% sure. Maybe I'll change the reservation to an October timeframe. I'm just worry it might be harder to rent. Too many decisions.

Well, the resort opens in May. At first the rep told me that they weren't taking any reservations. I asked her to ask her supervisor to make sure that was correct. So, she did and came back to tell me that I could. She said that there were only 1 bedrooms available. I didn't ask how many units there were? I didn't want to confuse her anymore. She seemed like a new rep... I'll probably call everyday to see if a 2 bedroom opens up.

The superferry should be open to Kauai by then (Maui will be running soon) - this may work better than flying.

Wait a minute. You're supposed to be able to release either side of your villa without penalty. From DavidnRobin's welcome e-mail posted here

Important Information Regarding Your Reservation

• Every effort will be made to meet your special requests, including your Villa assignment requests.
• When booking during the Home Resort Preference Period (12-8 months prior to check-in), Owners at The Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas can expect to receive the view and villa type owned.
• Villa assignments are made based solely on the date and time of the reservation.
• Villa assignment requests will be noted in your reservation, but are not guaranteed to be fulfilled.
• Changes made to the length of a reservation (changing the arrival or departure date) or to a different size villa (other than releasing one side of the lockoff) will result in a loss of priority in the queue for fulfilling requests.
