Madge - I have a few questions I'd like for you to answer, please.

I am a travel agent (& a TS owner). In the October 2 issue of 'Travel Agent' magazine, there was an article that told of how RCI is now making condos, villas, & houses available to travel agents to rent to their clients. In order to get 1st hand knowledge of how wonderful the timeshare condo experience is, RCI is giving travel agents a 25% discount off rental fees if units are rented for themselves. Lastly, through the end of 2006 and during special promotions thereafter, travel agents can make 20% commission on rentals they arrange.

I logged onto the website listed in the article and sure enough, it was timeshare resorts that were listed for rent. These were not excess inventory: Hawaii any time of year, coastal So CA in the San Diego area during Del Mar race season, coastal FL any time of year, etc. The rental fees for these units were reasonable.

My questions to you, Madge, are:
1. From what inventory are these weeks being made available from? Spacebanked weeks program? Points program?
2. Why, as a timeshare owner requesting an exchange into Hawaii, am I told by an RCI VC that there is a 2 year wait, but as a travel agent, I can book a week for the spring of 2007 and at a 25% discount to boot?
3. Why is RCI not honoring what they promised their paying members - namely, the availability of units in desirable locations when they spacebanked their weeks for the use of other MEMBERS?

jkb,

I'm not aware of this program. I'll see what I can find out about it and follow up.

What have you found out?

Madge - Can you share with me what you have found out about my original query? It's been awhile since I posted the question - you indicated you would get back to me...

I, too, am wondering what happened with this tread

I was wondering the same thing. Could it be that the OP stepped on an RCI landmine? You promised to get back to him.

jkb,

If you have questions about the offerings on VacationRentals4Agents.com, please call the telephone number provided on their website, 866-844-2017. Their telephone agents should be able provide more detailed information about the program.

Madge,
Did you even read the OP's questions?:( He wants to know, as do I, how come travel agents are given access to RCI's inventory, often for the most sought after locations, and for a discount! Also the OP said that the weeks he saw on the travel agent site are prime weeks most often unavailable to owners.
Will you kindly reread the questions and answer them as the OP posed them.
Thank you,
Marylyn

Madge - Unfortunately, your posting didn't answer my questions. No one at the toll-free number that you posted in your reply will be able to answer my original questions. They are assisting travel agents in depleting available TS inventory. You made the toll-free number public - maybe TS owners should call and register their thoughts about this program... I have no doubt that this would make any difference to the RCI business plan but...

Madge, I'm still waiting...

Some might complain that I'm beating a dead horse by bringing this up again but I'm still waiting for answers to my questions. Please reread my original questions and supply all of us readers the information that we deserve to know. Thanks.

article in Jan/Feb TUG magazine

There is an article in TIMESharing Today magazine (Jan/Feb 2007 page 7) about this subject…. And when I reread it , I find that it is from our JKB … who started this tread … (Thank you Janet for a fine article and the great information) and has received no answer. I have seen the “last call weeks” … dry up over night recently… I had been looking for Florida and Hilton head, and while there are consistently various weeks available with 1 to 3 weeks notice during the off season, suddenly there were none. Last call and extra weeks are the biggest reason I stay with RCI.

Janet… have you heard anything since your article? From RCI ? may I ask what type of pricing the weeks carry on the agents inventory? I know at our timeshare , I could find who the owner of a particular week was and then find out how it got to the travel agent site (past thru rci ..?? or not).

Thanks so much, John in Va JohnfromVa@cox.net

Closing thread

JKB, can you post your original question again. I am going to close this thread as it is drifting too far away from your question.
