Ok like many we went to a TS presentation in Mex in 2003. We already had a points type TS that when we used up our points we were done or could buy more (if any places still offer that I would recommend it, it was easy to get out of by using it up). Anyway many drinks, lots of pressure, told we would be an "owner" and promises of being able to sell at a profit, we put down $$ for a bi-yearly stay at Fisherman's Village in Playa del Carmen (Sunset Resorts). We used it several times plus exchanged it with RCI several times, but haven't used the resort or RCI for several years (canceled the RCI membership about 2 years ago). Age and health are catching up, especially with my husband. He is in his 80s and has severe dementia. Travel, especially to a foreign country is out. Travel in general is stressful (lost him once). At most we get a cabin for a few days within a few hours of home. Intial cost of the TS was paid off years ago so there is no balance, MFs only now and we've paid them loyally. I've listed it twice here on TUG for the cost of the paid MFs with no luck. Now it's time to pay the MF's again and it seems like such a waste for something we won't be able to use.
I've read every one of the threads here that I can find about stopping paying MF's to a Mexican resort and it seems like just not paying is the way to go. May have to endure some harassment and threats, but to hold firm and ignore them. But I'm still nervous and it doesnt help that people who post on these threads don't seem to ever come back and tell us what eventually happened! There must be thousands of people that walk away that we don't even ever hear from. Can they really ding our credit eventually? We have an over 800 rating so it would take a big ding to really affect us. Mostly I am concerned about being harrassed, I have enough on my plate taking care of my husband and everything else.

So questions? We just got an email saying we could get a discount for paying our MF early and eventually we will get one saying it's time to pay them for 2026/27. Should I email them back with a nice little note explaining our situation and that we are discontinuing our membership with them or just ignore it? Also has any of the advice I've read in these threads (back to the early 2000's) changed in recent years in regards to walking away from a Mex timeshare? Any other words of advice or encouragment?
Thanks you

Is it a 25 year RTU ( Right to use) membership as many are in Mexico? Since it started in 2023 it might all just be ending in 2028? Perhaps it’s one that’s perpetual as long as points remain.

I might well be interested in this with a bit more info and I’ve sent a message through TUG as it’s likely easier than chatting within this post.

In 2020 I was keen to move forward and buy through TUG for this resort if I could find the right deal and then Covid hit.

In 2022 my wife passed away at only 52 years of age and honestly I’m just getting my feet back under me for things I’d been engaged on back in 2020 - 2022.

Tonight I’ve gone back and refreshed my memory from past messages with others from TUG in 2020 and this opportunity you have seems very much like something I’m interested in.

Let’s see if we can’t connect and chat more before you let things slide on the payment side of the Maintenance Fees.
