I was reading reviews of the resort, in various sites.

One of them mentioned "Daily Touch Up Service, fresh towels and they take out the trash".

I am guessing that is only ONCE during a week's stay. That's fine by me; just want to clarify.

We check in on a Friday, I suspect we will get a Monday or Tuesday 'touch up'?

Nope, for a week's stay (if that's your case) it's clean when you arrive, and it's cleaned after you leave....
no "touch-ups" in between unless you request and pay extra for it.

It might be different if you're renting, or if it's a shorter "points stay", but I'm not 100% sure.
The front desk can tell you exactly what their policy is. We've only stayed there a few times, renting last-minute.

We never find it necessary for any resort, but some apparently like it and are willing to pay.

"Free" daily tidy would only apply to a cash stay via Marriott.com.

I'm usually ok with ONE mid-week tidy and swapping out of towels, etc.

If they don't have ANY----that'll be ok, too.

Pat

We've never stayed at Surfwatch, but we've have never been refused or charged for a towel exchange at any Marriott Vacation Club. Just call down to the front desk.

Correct, there's nothing to a towel exchange....they simply bring extra towels whenever you need them, timeshare or hotel.

Never a charge for that anywhere that I'm aware of.

Big difference obviously from a tidy service.

Hmmmm, we just assumed they'd want us to use our Laundry facilities; which we generally do.

We do the same, seems like always something going .......but, when requested, even rarely for most,
they are always quick to help with more linens, towels, etc.....no questions asked, AND they deliver.
We're lucky to have that privilege as Marriott owners and guests, but for the most part, all hotels & timeshares do the same.

jme,

Have you been to SurfWatch? Any thoughts/suggestions for our upcoming stay in a month?

We are familiar with Surfwatch because we occasionally rent extra Hilton Head time there, but we are not owners.
I suppose we've stayed there 10 times over the past 15 -18 years.

We own at Grande Ocean, Barony, Oceanwatch, & Manor Club
as shown in the left column, but we've stayed at all of the HH Marriotts.

What kind of things would you want to know?

Regarding Surfwatch specifically, the expert would be Susan, aka SueDonJ, one of our fine moderators,
and/or other owners who might be listening.

Perhaps I can help but need to know what you're interested in learning about.

Thanks for the reply. I have done EXTENSIVE research about HH, despite having never been there.

Our daylight hours will be consumed about half around Golf---and I have gathered enough info on my own to not have to ask any questions about. That's my 'thing'.

So, I'll ask a few random questions about HH and SurfWatch:

#1 We likely will go out to RESTAURANTS twice: That will include once to a NICE restaurant to celebrate 35 years. DW likes a water view and 'romantic'. We perhaps will order Steak; it won't be Italian or Seafood.

We will go out a SECOND time to a "Mexican" Restaurant, that need not be fancy.

I have read quite a bit about restaurants, and have narrowed it down to a few----but may be missing some.

Should we go to Old Fort Pub, Santa Fe (jme fave), Wise Guys,---and then Holy Tequilla----or other suggestions?

#2 We plan to walk the beach (near Surfwatch) around either sunrise/senset. Are there other beaches/places that would be worthwhile to make an effort to drive to----Skull Creek, Mitchelville Beach, Pinckney Island?

#3 Have you spent time hanging out at the Fire Pits at Surfwatch? ( from what I'm quite certain we will be a 'Gardenview' Building.)

#4 Are the music presentations on-site pretty good? A Marriott employee sent me THIS week's Activity Schedule. It'll change, I know, but for this week it is Dean St Hillaire, Mike Kavanaugh, and Mike Korbar.

That's what I have for now----many thanks,
Pat

#1. Romantic restaurant with water view? = Old Fort Pub.....only one I know that satisfies those two requirements in a special way.
Food excellent, romantic "inland waterway" view (request window table!!!)----probably best "romantic view" on island, small and intimate. (Very few places with water views. None with ocean view.)
Mexican?.....use this source = https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g54273-c29-Hilton_Head_South_Carolina.html
but imho, I'd just visit San Miguel's---it's decent, popular, has live entertainment, and that area at Shelter Cove is beautiful---shops and very nice marina, beautiful sunset over the harbor, fun to walk along sidewalk and see boats. Harbour Town in Sea Pines is also a must to see lighthouse area.
#2. Beach to walk?...Surfwatch is fine, or Barony, or Grande Ocean--all nice. Same beach! a slightly different look at each, all enjoyable.
#3. Fire Pits at SW?...they're fine...small area but OK. Best are at Grande Ocean, by far. SW Garden View units are nice, close to clubhouse.
#4. On-site music ?....have no clue---take advice of concierge and staff, or others who stayed there recently(?).

SENT YOU some other information regarding restaurants via private message. Enjoy

Thanks for the post here---and private message.

I think it's going to be Old Fort Pub----IF they can guarantee us a water view---preferably outdoor seating.

Given your reply, I now can omit taking the time to go to 'other' beaches.

I'll take that time to go to Shelter Cove, instead---which I now have to look up.

Something I have yet to understand (I need to look it up, I guess) is the areas/plantations, etc.----and access to them---perhaps "Shelter Cove" is one of these 'areas'?
Is "Port Royal" considered the same type of thing (and, will we be 'IN', or close to Port Royal at SurfWatch)?
"Shipyard", "Sea Pines", or others. Can anyone get in?

Thanks,
Pat

I think you said your stay was in a month? Late-February may or may not be outside dining weather in Hilton Head. Average high temperature for February is 61 and the average low 39. So that means the odds are about 50-50 that the high temperatures could be below 61 and in the 50s, or above 61 and in the 60s or 70s. The record low for the month is 15 degrees. But it can also be very nice. Record high for the month is 84. One other thing, I'm not sure if the HHI restaurants even open their outdoor sections during the cold weather seasons. They may wait for warm weather.

Ditto, good info., but.....

Just doesn't matter, and shouldn't be a concern at all....if the outdoor porch dining is open and warm enough, great.

If not, a window table looking over the porch is beautiful. See photos below!
Frankly, most all tables see the nice view because of the long glass windows. Love it.

Nobody knows the weather this far out, so it could easily go either way.
I trust a forecast 2 days ahead, and that's pushing it. Stats fly out the window for Hilton Head,
altho this year has been unusually cold.

Each "plantation" is like its own neighborhood development. Some of them allow anyone to enter, others are gated and restrict access to owners or guests of the properties within that plantation. Sea Pines, charges an admission fee to enter if you wish to visit the shops and things contained within it.

Is Old Fort Pub located in the former Chart House location? If not. what restaurant is there now. The views looks similar but its been several years since I was there. I'll be spending all January next year in Hilton Head and look forward my first extended stay.

No. Old Fort Pub is located farther down Squire Pope Rd past Skull Creek Boathouse, actually inside Hilton Head Plantation. You have to stop at the guard house and get a free placard to get to Old Fort Pub.

The old Chart House location was bought by the folks who operate Skull Creek Boathouse and was to be renovated into a new place called Skull Creek Dockside. Last time we were there last year, I don't think it was open yet. Not sure about now.

Thanks again, JIM.

Skull Creek Dockside
is now OPEN, has been for a few weeks,
and is located immediately adjacent to Skull Creek Boathouse, as shown in photo below:

Zoomed out

Dockside has a very nice inland waterway view through the restaurant windows and also from the patio. You seem closer to water.
Boathouse is slightly farther from the inland waterway by a few feet, I'd say 30-40 feet,
and looks through more trees, plus has a larger outside dining deck, which seems to visually separate
the restaurant proper from the water. Not a big deal, but just different.

The old Boathouse has an immense menu, far better than the new Dockside, and slightly better food than Dockside, imho.
Ate there at Dockside three weeks ago.......still fun, though, and will be very popular.
Compare menus online, noticeable difference.
