I've been a long time Verizon customer but now pricing for the triple play is $280 whereas Altice for faster internet, more channels, free NetFlix and better DVR features is $50 cheaper per month.

Can anyone on Long island help me make this decision one way or another?

We moved last December and got the Triple Play ($99 which is really $156 after everything - 2 boxes) They threw in multiroom DVR and Netflix for 1 years.
We have had so much trouble with the Altice equipment that we asked for the old equipment back. They said no.
My husband is on the phone with Cablevision at least once a month (in the beginning it used to be once a week) having them reprogram one of the boxes. In the living room box, we can't get audio on the Netflix and they have no idea how to fix it - we just watch it in the bedroom and we definitely won't be paying for it after the free trial.
We love the internet connection - it is really fast.
We are in the town of Riverhead.
