Just thinking about buying a RCI Points Timeshare. I have a couple of questions and am always open to advice. I currently own one II timeshare.

1) Do the RCI points for a given resort ever change? Say I buy a resort that gives 50,000 points per year, does RCI ever change the number of points you receive?

2) What are the current annual RCI points fees and how much does it cost per transaction?

3) If you see a resort in Weeks that you want how many points does it take.

4) Is there a RCI Points for dummies anywhere?

Thanks and any advice is appreciated.

1) Do the RCI points for a given resort ever change? Say I buy a resort that gives 50,000 points per year, does RCI ever change the number of points you receive? YES .. can go up or down basis on review of resort ... one of my resorts went UP in point values.
2) What are the current annual RCI points fees and how much does it cost per transaction? $89 every 3 years (to keep week in RCI Points) plus your RCI Points yearly membership fee
3) If you see a resort in Weeks that you want how many points does it take. Varies - by resort -- there is NO SKIM. If owner get 66K, it takes you 66K to book it.
4) Is there a RCI Points for dummies anywhere? School of hard knocks and TUG.
Thanks and any advice is appreciated.

I feel one of the BIG advantages with RCI points is the HOME RESORT and HOME GROUP.

With HOME RESORT, you can book back into YOUR home resort at the 12 month out mark for ONLY $40 exchange fee. Say you NEED July 4th every year; some years it is Week 26 and other years it is Week 27.

Home Group booking is 11 months out - gets you into other resorts ahead of the 10 month start of the booking window. Full exchange fee, just an earlier booking window.

Also, with RCI points, getting a lockout is GOOD - Reserve your larger side for the family for 1 week and use 2 years worth of points from the small side, to get a 2nd week every other year ($40 exchange fee if you are booking back into you HOME RESORT).

Have various classes of units - book the unit YOUR like - my one RCI Points weeks have 2 different 1 bdr styles with 3 different point values. Pick and reserve the unit YOU LIKE or the unit where your save points by being a cheapskate.

You can borrow future years points for free.

I have an opportunity to purchase RCI point account red week at Outer Banks of North Carolina 86000 for MF $650. I already own a week account and was looking for another one to increase my TPU for future reservations, but I do not know what will be the best. I will never use this resort. Should I buy RCI points or look for a better trader on weeks side. Looking for pros and cons. Thank you.

THOSE points to MFs are a GREAT ratio ...

I have both - both get different things. If you want or need more TPUs for a special trip, deposit 2 different years and do a combine into a BIG TPU deposit.

As for Points, there is NO combining fees - there are HOME WEEK, HOME RESORT, and HOME GROUP of RESORT priority booking windows.

HOME RESORT is only a $40 RCI booking fee - you can go down in unit size, different seasons (seasons are by point value) -- great flexibility.

HOME GROUP is a regular RCI points exchange fee, but it is month 11 verses the MASSES OF RCI Points owners at month 10.

You get a RCI Weeks account with your RCI Points account. More the TPU week to the "free" account -- unless the weeks account is a corporate account (like Wyndham) and is also included with your HOA fees.

I find that OBX Barrier Island Station Kitty Hawk has one of the best MF-Pt ratios

I haven't found a con to it. I saw one of these on eBay, which you may be referring to (auction ended last night, bought for $1), but passed this time only because I recently bought two of these on eBay. I have both weeks and points accounts. I tend to use my points account way more. To buy a timeshare with 86,000 points annually with a maintenance fee that low for a $1; what a bargain!

Point are point right ? However this resort is not that desirable but still has high points value which can change in the future. Also, it was sold originally as weeks and converted to points. How do I know if I can keep it in points after transfer. I already called resort but could not get an answer out of them.

I saw it too but right now I am on a look only and no buying until I shuffle around a few that I have and can't use effectively.

I like having both even though the annual fee is about $40 more for points. I don't use points as much as a did in the past but like having both for the flexibility. The trick in my opinion is finding the right number of points to fit your usage give or take a bit.

To ISHPAK: If you mean RCI points, just call RCI and speak to someone, they are helpful and will explain to you. I purchased an RCI points unit and the transfer of points account was no problem at all.

The M/F for 86K points is great. M/F can always go up though.
