"An Introduction to the War of 1812

The War of 1812 was fought between the United States and Great Britain and lasted from 1812 to 1815. Resulting from American anger over trade issues, [URL='https://www.thoughtco.com/impressment-of-sailors-1773327']impressment of sailors
, and British support of Indian attacks on the frontier, the conflict saw the US Army attempt to invade Canada while British forces attacked south. Over the course of the war, neither side gained a decisive advantage and the war resulted in a return to status quo ante bellum. Despite this lack of conclusiveness on the battlefield, several late American victories led to a newfound sense of national identity and a feeling of victory...."

The war of 1812 - is the “classic “ both sides think they won war .

The Battle of New Orleans - is the 3 pointer that went in after the buzzer.
It does not factor in Canadian History .

I won't resort to jingoism.

I'll just say that the War Of 1812 is often referred to as America's second war for independence. Had the British prevailed, America would have been returned to territorial status within the British Empire. As it was, President Madison--often referred to as The Father of the Constitution--was a rather weak President, and certainly not a wartime leader of any effectiveness. The Brits burned down the White House, with Dolley Madison famously saving a copy of Gilbert Stuart's painting of George Washington from being looted by British troops.

As for who won between the USA and Canada, I will posit that both countries won. We share the longest peaceful border in the world, we're each other's largest trading partners, and--speaking for myself as an American--I have a lot of admiration for Canada and Canadians. I know present politics has strained this relationship, but more than 200 years of friendly relations cannot be undone by the passions of the moment. Thank you, Canada, for being such a fine neighbor. I've loved our visits to your beautiful country and look forward to many more.
