Our trip to the Oregon Coast took us from Seaside in the north to Newport on the central coast. Our “base camp” was the Rockaway Beach Resort. The resort highlight of the trip was the Otter Rock Timeshares at Otter Rock. Built into the hillside overlooking the Pacific this resort offers spectacular vistas.

In the north, World Mark Seaside is the resort if you want to be on the beach/boardwalk and in the center of activities. This high rise resort is situated on the Pacific with sweeping views of the ocean. It is within walking distance of restaurants and activities. If you have a sweet tooth stop by Phillips Candies and pick up some taffy!

Seaside is a bustling town. If you crave a more “laid back” setting, try Rockaway Beach or Cannon Beach. Our resort in Rockaway Beach overlooked the Pacific and was only a short stairway from the beach. If you like to hear the pounding surf this resort is for you!

The drive up or down the coast offers vistas overlooking a “rugged” coastline. Oregon is more like Maine than any of the coastal areas we have visited. Rocks jutting out of the ocean, the smell of salt air and pounding surf play to your senses! Like the Washington coast a favorite “activity” here is storm watching. The power of nature is on full display when a storm comes ashore with howling winds and high waves!

For those looking for a different golf experience try Bay Breeze in Tillamook. Located down from the Tillamook Cheese plant (yes they offer tours), this is a nine hole course but the unique feature is the “miniature” golf course. There is nothing miniature about this all grass course with holes ranging from 100 to 150 feet. The only course we have seen like this was in Manson, Washington.

Newport and Lincoln City on the south end of the central coast offers a “bustling” atmosphere similar to Seaside. If you are looking for a slower pace try Otter Rock, Depot Bay or Gleneden Bay. For a different dining experience in this part of the coast, stop at Tidal Raves Seafood Grill. Situated on a cliff overlooking the bay you are treated to both great food and a great setting. We’ll be happy to send you our pictures from Tidal Raves.

We consider the Oregon coast one of the most unique destinations we have visited. We have visited all 50 states and Oregon offers a “different” coastal experience than any of the other states. If you want to know more send us a private email. We’ll be happy to answer any questions you have.

Oregon Coast many times

We have done the coast many times and last year we hit Seaside for the first time. We happened to go right after kids went back to school and at that time the town almost seems to close down. Many of the shops weren't open so keep your time you go in mind.
Our favorite spot along the coast is the Newport Beach area.

Nice review of he area. Don't forget to post a TUG review of the timeshare. You can earn additional membership time for those.

Jim

P.S. my family vacationed at Newport for years when I was a young boy. 'Taint the same now by a long shot!

CTO Bill, thanks for this great review. Our youngest daughter just moved to Portland from Pittsburgh and our other daughter's boyfriend's family is in Corevalis, so we're all going to Oregon for Thanksgiving. I'm wondering if I can trade through II for a nice coastal 2 bedroom or even a 3 bedroom. I see that WorldMark owns/manages The Resort at Seaside and they have large units. I'm wondering if this makes sense for Thanksgiving. Would anything be open for tourists? Would we be able to exchange in?

Any insight from any of you would be welcome. Thanks in advance!

Dianne, did you notice that this thread is 2 years old and the OP hasn't been on TUG for almost 2 years?

To answer your questions, tourist services will be scarce in November, but people live there so basics like restaurants, groceries and gas are available.

The Oregon coast has a certain rugged beauty even in Winter, but don't expect much beach time.

Jim

Thanks Jim, I did know the thread was older but didn't know the original poster was not around lately. My beach activity would be walking up and down. I'm fine bundling up on the beach. One of our best days on Hilton Head was a cold January day when we had the entire beach to ourselves, shared with the sea gulls. :)

We have friends that go to Seaside almost every Thanksgiving. They like to stay at the Worldmark and will have Thanksgiving dinner next door at the Shilo Inn. Some times they have stayed at the Shilo Inn when they can't get into the Worldmark.

There is also a fun festival of lights parade. The Irish Bar is Mc-something and has live Irish music for Thanksgiving most of the years.

I have a large family so I can't go. Bring your heavy coat if you go.
