Just an update, by the end of this week we will have a new provider of travel protection. The company Marriott Vacation Club has signed with is Travelex.
Oddly enough, Travelex was the servicing company that was behind VacationGuard. Looks like VacationGuard decided to dance with Berkshire Hathaway instead and it appears MVC liked what they already had from a plan/price perspective and stayed with Travelex.
After purchasing many years of affordable annual travel insurance with Marriott from Vacation Guard, and another insurer before them, while booking my 2017 weeks today I was asked if I wanted travel insurance again...but that the rates have really gone up from the $119 fee I paid before. As the Vacation Guard insurance expires at the end of 2016 I said OK for 2017 coverage.
The Marriott booking agent contacted the 'new' travel company .. Travelex. He came back to the phone to say he is very sorry but they won't insure Canadians...and you have to be a US citizen or live in USA to get it. I'm surprised Marriott would accept and make such a change to not offer owners outside of USA this coverage.
I've been a big supporter of VacationGuard, as one year they covered a tooth I broke and a new crown without any problem. Now I feel Marriott has let us down.
Welcome to the "Exile Club" we Europeans have been long term members of.
If I understand correctly though the new offering limits single trips to 30 days, so it would no longer meet our needs anyway!
That's really odd as the old VacationGuard coverage was affiliated with Travelex and then VacationGuard flipped to Berkshire Hathaway which caused the change in MVC's offering away from VacationGuard to a standalone solution directly with Travelex.
Seems odd Travelex would sell to Candians before, but not now.
