How do the rooms and the costs compare if you stay at the District using HGVC points vs the Embassy Suites ?

Are the 1 br BHC rooms the same size and layout as ES rooms, with nicer finishes? or were walls moved to make bigger rooms?

re costs, I see a 1 br using points is :

816/1632 in gold season
1152/2304 in plat

plus is just under 25% more

we are currently at 14.6 cpp across all deeds, less if I exclude the week we use our HW. that would put the room cost at:

$119/$238
$168/$336

since this includes taxes this seems like a great price for a room in DC - especially midweek. subject to availability in the club booking window of course.

looking at a summer trip

I have not stayed there, but from what I have seen in pictures and videos, the rooms look like the same size and layout of standard Embassy Suites, with upgraded finishes.

I have stayed in both pre-Covid so my DP is several years ago. My impression is that the rooms are the same size but the finishes are nicer. The HGVC units are on the top floors. There is a lounge for owners. We are not owners so did not use but the breakfast buffet downstairs was a good substitute.

I recall a Tugger stating that the rooms on the topmost floor were hot during summer but YMMV because we were not on the top floor and did not personally experience this.

I've stayed there 5-6 times in the past 5 years and I think it's almost always been during Gold season. My room cost per night during Gold season has been $85-$105 and about $170 during Platinum. Prior to owning I have stayed at the HGI down the block as the rates there were always better than the ES. As others have shared, the room layouts are the same with nicer finishes and possibly furniture. I have a family member that used to live about 2 blocks away, so this made it super convenient to visit them. They have since moved about 15 miles out of DC, but are close to the Metro line so it's still works for me. I do own an EOY 1BR here, so I have access to the Owners Lounge and appreciate the extra space and complimentary drinks during the day + am options and evening drink/snack options. If you have a car you can find some deals on parking garages in the area that are lower than what the property charges.

Hotels generally tend to be expensive throughout the year, but you can find lower rates at times during the winter/summer months. YMMV
